Hi guys, new to this gokart stuff. Bought this for 150 bucks. It runs but in a very beat up state. Rebuidling for kids to ride.
Questions are;
If the battery is dead, will it still run?
Does the battery get charged somehow or do i need to battery tender it?
Does anyone have a diagram on how the throttle cable gets hooked to engine. Its been rigged, think its wrong

Thanks

Hello and welcome.
Please fill out your location as to better assist you.
Please post some pics as to what this is. Can't really help with out know what were dealing with.

Typically you could jump it with another vehicle (your car/truck) if it is 12v.

The engine should run whether the battery is connected or not; most of these engines don't have a battery & run just fine; the battery is simply to start the engine...

Just about every electric start engine has a charging coil which charges the battery...

There have been many threads started on the subject of tecumseh throttle setups but, none have a difinitive solution; post some detailed pics of the throttle setup & we'll guide you from there...

You just caught us at a good time... some of us have nothing better to do :lolgoku:

Well, that's not right; unfortunately, off hand, I can't say what is right...

Perhaps you can search "tecumseh throttle setup" or wait for someone else to provide a better answer...

I'm going to wager a guess, the PO added a throttle return spring to aid in returning to idle.

Yeah, pretty jacked up....Tecumseh throttle set ups are a bit weird...to begin with...where the throttle cable hooks up is out of frame in your pic..(it doesn't hook up to the throttle plate like it is). Then there are a hook, a wire loop, and a spring that actuate the trottle that is also controlled by the governor (and governor lever.)

I assume the govener lever is the arm dangling on the engine. Lol
I think throttle cable it hooked on wrong side anyways. Funny....

Yeah, that's it .The little s hook connects the top of it to the carb, and the hook and spring connect to the bottom of it:

So when i bought this. It ran. Obviously not great but it does. He had the throttle cable connected directly to engine. All this other linkage is left alone. It runs good. Whats up with all that connection stuff. Obviously does not need to hooked up?

Yes it does; most of those springs & linkages are for the governor to work correctly; if the throttle cable has been connected in a way that negates or bypasses the governor assembly, that will cause damage to the engine internals...

What you need to do is set the entire assembly back to stock so the governor works or remove the governor entirely...
