Engine problems old 6.5 clone

What does it mean when spark plug covered in soot and 6.5 ohv engine will not run unless choked and still dies. New carb.

Try cleaning the completely... Maybe do a lemon juice boil aswell and see If that helps running...

Spark plug is not the problem. If it only rune with choke on. you have a dirty carb. You say the carb is new. Doesnt matter. you probably have dirty gas tank or crap in fuel line and you already Dirtied the new carb.

You need to remove the fuel bowl from the carb, up inside the center is a brass jet. Remove the jet clean it and reinstall. This should solve your problem.

But since this is a new carb already plugged, Clean the Fuel system, tank and fuel line. See if you can install a fuel filter. There is very little room on a stock clone to add a filter

That's the mixture screw for the low speed jet. Two turns out from fully seated is a good starting point.

I'd take Chancer's advice on cleaning the fuel system. You changed the carb for a reason, leading me to suspect varnished gas or trash in the gas caused problems with the original carb.

Cleaning the low speed jet would be a good idea if you're still having problems with a clean fuel system, it doesn't take much trash in them. If you're unfamiliar with the low speed jet it's right underneath the idle adjusting screw. Remove the idle adjustment screw and pry up the low speed jet with a small flathead screwdriver. Be careful with the o-rings though, they don't like carb cleaner.

Well... you might need to pull the head if a valve is sticky......
Gas in the crankcase is usually from the carb float, it likes to seep fuel when petcock left on sometimes.....
But there might be more if you see a stuck valve.....

Have to close the fuel shut off when not in use. Drain oil and replace and start using the fuel shut off.
