Alright guys, i found this engine a power horse 208cc OHV Horizontal engine for $169.99.. I don't know much about anything, so i wanted your guys opinion. How much hp would these things have. And would it work for the go kart in my avatar? Should i buy it or should i look for something better?

I am pretty sure it is a clone with a slightly different design, that has been bored/stroked. I imagine it would be rated at about 7hp. I personally would not buy it because you have the chance that honda/clone parts may not fit. Instead i would get ome of these.

It'll do the job, but keep in mind that anything over 8hp (typically) has a 1" shaft, so you're going to have to buy a new clutch or cvt for your kart as the old one is likely 3/4". You will also have to modify or fab a new engine mount plate as the footprint on the larger engines is, well- larger.

There's about a zillion 6.5hp clones out there for $100-$200. Grab one. It'll do the job, and are compatible with most Honda GX repair and upgrade parts. The Harbor Freight model is a very popular choice, but as I understand it, they're discontinued and getting a bit harder to find. Do a google image search and look closely at all the 6.5's like the Lifan, Champion, Power Fist, and Box Stock Project. Before long, you'll be able to spot a clone 100 miles away and be able to make some choices.

this..... <<<<

any thoughts?
would it be a big upgrade from a 10hp tecumseh?

it would have 60% more power, and be a reasonably good engine, but the Tecumseh is probably of better quality.

he wants to save money not pay more than he has to...

if i spend money on a good reliable engine, and not on a cheep one that is more likely to brake, i may very well save money. i would gladly spend some extra money on a good engine.

also:

this one requires a 1" bore clutch

maybe dad will help pay for a Honda? he is right, a Honda would be an excellent choice! maybe used? a GX200 from northern i think is $400, kinda expensive. that robin Subaru 6hp is an excellent engine and at $225 with free shipping, who can resist!?

heres some more specs on this engine, EX17 engine specs

Sled engines could be done for $100 and be about 25 to 50 hp plus. Not new though.
