engine position

hey i am building a similar frame to the one on the website and i was wondering where on the back of the cart is a good place to put the motor position wise, to the left or to the right? or what?

on all the go karts i have done i have aways but the engine on the left. MAinly because the engine shaft is on the left and the gas tank would be facing the back. but if you do it to the right the gas tank and muffler will be facing you. and you don't want to bend the muffler too much because that would cause a decrease in power.hope that helped any

yep so bascically it can be anywhere for convience purposes?

i thought maybe a certain position on the frame would have better weight distribution or something?

you put it on the left because the output shaft of the engine is on the left. However, if you were making a live-axle kart, you could put it anywhere, since the drive sprocket could be mounted anywhere along the axle -- on a fixed axle the sprocket must be mounted to the drive wheel.
