Engine issues again

I have a Tecumseh HM100-159363p I currently had the side cover off to change the ignition relay thingamabob. Now it will crank wont run. If I play with the throttle on top of the carburetor i can get it to run for a few more seconds, But I have absolutely no idle. I think a spring on the quadrant got overstretched while the over was off. Has anyone encountered this.

just the shroud, or the crank case cover?

I assume shroud, soo have you aligned the new coil?
properly spaced it; tightened it down to specs?

The check if you accidentally pinched, cracked or punctured any wire.

PS Pics could help, maybe it's something only remotely related, like the carb gasket in case you removed it for easier access...

this may sound a bit ridiculous, but i once encountered something like this and it was because the fuel was turned off, so it would start, but only for a few seconds, then it would stall unless you played with the throttle

Spray some starting fluid down its carb throat and try to start it. If it wants to run, you can eliminate spark. Are you 100% sure you have the carb throttle plate open when you are trying to start it? It wont run if you don't open the throttle while trying to start it. All 4 of my karts will start on the 1st or 2nd pull if you hold the throttle open.

I only had the shroud off. But im not sure about the ignition being properly located I have had issues with clearance so I put it at hits highest setting so that could be my issue.

that WILL be an issue indeed.

find a cereal box or any food cardstock you have (thinwalled) and cut a strip of cardboard to use as a spacer...
put it on your flywheel (under the coil of course) but move the magnet out of the way,
then move the coil to the lowest position, tighten the bolts, remove cardboard
And you're much closer to where it "should" be

it should be around 0.4mm (that's ~0.016") with 0.2mm play (0.008")
at least for Hondas... Tecs use a hair smaller gaps (0.0125") or something

If you have a feeler gauge, use that instead;
if you don't or don't have one that's long enough.. cardboard

I use a business card.

Stick the card inbetween the coil and magnet, let the magnet suck it in. Tighten it down, rotate the flywheel, take out card. Done.
