Looking to identify what engine I have so I can buy recoil starter. Any ideas 💡

Look for a plate or some laser etched numbers on the block. May have to strip shrouds from engine. May even be on a sticker? Probably a 5-6hp engine though.

Couldn't see anything even when engine is out ,but as you I might need to take of a cover plate first. I wasn't want to buy a new recoil starter in case it's the wrong on .never had one on it when I bought it

Does it have compression when you try to turn it by hand? You may be starting down an expensive rabbit hole with the engine.

Yes I gave it to a guy that fixes of road bikes and quads to check it ,he saying has a spark and compression

its a techumseh 5 hp, I have one and love it, if your model has the oil sensor remove it, if you take a turn the oil will slosh away and cause the engine to turn off
