Hello

Can you guys ID all the major and minor points on the engine ?

with last pic whats the silver piece of metal down above the kick starter, just above the big circle thingy. Where is the clutch located ?. Gear shifter ?. what are the electrical cords for ?. What do i need to get ?. Second pic what is that black circular thing on the left above what i think is gear shifter but wont move, except pull out a little bit? and the circle pressed into the metal on right above gear shifter, it has 3 6 9 12 around it then a 60 in the middle ?

take pictures of the intake and exhaust ports so we can see this sand your talking about. dont get ahead of yourself. make sure its worth putting parts into before u start ordering paper weights.

I'd take off the intake boot, and see how far the sand goes. carefully clean it out. If it looks like the intake or exhaust valve is open, i'd pull the head off for peace of mind.

]the little lever above the circle cast into the side on the engine
thats the clutch lever, there is a little silver fitting u can see below the cylender thats for the clutch cable
Where is the clutch located ?.
the clutch is located under that "big circle thing" that whole side plate is called the clutch cover u have no need to touch it as u activate the clutch with the lever (it will be quite stiff )
Gear shifter ?.
bottom of first pic small shaft with fine slines on it (go to the wreakers to get a shifter lever)
what are the electrical cords for ?.
power and likely a range of sensors, u need more info like a wiring diagram
the cover they extrude from is called the flywheel cover u may have to remove it and trace the wires

mm thats one is a bit harder
more pics are required maybe a senormor some sort
id say speedo but its in the wrong spot
id say crank position sensor but why on this engine

3rd pic top right theres a cover with 3 bolts

it looks like this engine is electric start get more pics of that and we can explain how to wire that up

that is defineitly sand or dirt of sort in the intake

what do u know about this engine?
does it have good compresion?
u really need to clean it out before u attempt to turn it over
but u need to know its worth the trouble of working on it before u spend money on parts

ok so the clutch is the silver lever on top of clutch cover ?, cause there is another silver latch like thing at the bottom of the air fans which is just attached to a bolt ?? cause i can move the one above the clutch cover ( i learnt something new, YAY)

Well i know the engine is a 1 cylinder, 72mm bore diameter, 250cc, air cooled, motorcycle engine. From 172FMM

How do i get down to the in take boot ? and the intake and exhaust valve ? just take the rocker cover off ?

will i be able to change gears without the shifter lever ? or can i just use the thing it attaches to ( dont know proper name )

it dosent, its to help people that dont know how to ID engine details from engine model number, the image is coming up for me though ??? and im not logged into that site ?

Oh, i apologize, i assumed it was something to do with the wiring for this motor or something along those lines. You know what ASSuming does.

The intake boot is the rubber piece held onto the cylinder by 2 bolts. Unbolt it and examine deeper inside, you may be able to see the valve you may not depends on design. Like i said before, make sure its worth putting money into before you jump the gun and buy parts. Also i dont really like the looks of those motor mounts, I'd definitely re-design that setup if the motor is worth getting going.

it just slides onto that slined shaft and clamps on

take the engine back to the maddington wreakers they have a big box of every imaginable shifter there will be one that fits
get a steel one so u can weld to it

the little clasp below the cooling fins is where u clamp the clutch cable then the cable runs to the clutch lever


u are going have to remove the boot and scrap out all the sand
stick a vacume cleaner in there
just anything that that will get it out

u may be able to see inside the ports to see if the valves are closed
other wise remove the rocker cover and check the rockers

if one is down it means its open and u will have to remove the head and clean it properly
if they are both closed, the rockers will feel a little losse and u wil be able to "jiggle them"
then u should be ok if u can get all the sand out

id be taking it back to the wreakers
its not like them to sell an engine in this state

its likely it was sitting on the floor of the shop and dust blew in there
they really dont have a clean setup for stripping engine they may not be aware of the dirt inside it
although it is common practice plug any port to prevent dirt entry
either on the side of the road or a porfesional component built shop

where did it come from?
private seller

they will have stuff that fits but they keep few new parts like a head gasket and other seals u will need

yeah private seller, what is the black tube coming out of the back above clutch cover ? in last photo. I just want a carb and kick starter, i will try save the seals and gaskets, so i will take it up for them to check out and see what they can do.

That hose is just a crank case/transmission vent. I'm gonna say it one last time please save yourself some money and look the engine over thoroughly before you go buying parts. TRUST ME, your gonna kick yourself if you spend $150 in parts only to find the cyl is scored or something silly like that.

oh yes defiantly, no way im buying parts till i clean and check it, im just trying to get as much information about the engine as i can, and i am about to sit exams in a few weeks so i dont want to get sidetracked by the engine, that's why i am putting it off.
Where are the valves located ? what will they look like, open and closed ? or will i have to wiggle them to figure it out ?

do you think i would need to go down to the piston and cyl ? if i do need to what do i do ? what do i need to make sure is right before re assembling . like top dead center ?
