I'm looking for a little guidance for an electrical problem I'm having with an Intrepid 50cc 2-stroke racing go kart.
Background: I was told the kart would run at idle but as soon as you put it under load (a kid in it) it would bog and die. I figured a good carb cleaning would help but I wanted to see how it acted when started (this is where the problem began because I should NOT have agreed to work on this thing at all). Long story short is I was cranking it for too long and the current got the battery connections hot enough to melt the plastic clips and it shorted out. When I plugged everything back up and hit the starter, it just clicked but didn't turn over. There is a relay right after the battery and before the starter so I thought I popped it. I replaced it with one I bought online and same problem.
The clicking sounds like it's in the relay.
The battery is charged.
I examine it thoroughly but initial looks showed no fuses in line that could be popped.
I wonder if I fried the starter?
Clearly I'm not the best mechanic around but I'd love some troubleshooting tips or recommendations near STL on places to take it. Eventually I'd like to have the carb cleaned out too so any known pitfalls in this area would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.
