Wouldn't 1/2 scale power be 200, maybe 250HP? On a kart? That'll be a Darwin Award winner for sure! As for a V-4, let's think 1980's Honda VFR750F Interceptor engine with a lumpy cam!

It was just an idea! No, I'm joking I knew it would be ridiculously overpowered, even for some small cars.

It's funny ya'll mentioned the v twin engines because I had my Harley out this weekend and as it was sitting in the driveway idling and I was thinking that would be cool to have that sound coming out of the little Cobra. But my problem even with a small 250 v-twin is getting it under the body. At the highest point the little body is only 18" high and back at the trunk it slopes off closer to 12" high. I won't know for sure until I decide on an engine and get it but I think I will have to build an exhaust for it and relocate the fuel tank so it will fit like I want.

I took some better pictures of it this weekend and I pulled the cobra out beside it to show the difference in size and how surprisingly proportioned the body is.

I guess you want it to appear stock, eh? Bummer. Me?
250 V-Twin, mounted sideways in the front, with appropriate cutout in hood. Shaft drive from tranny to RAGB in rear, chain to axle. (or golf cart axle.) Quite an undertaking, but can ya picture the sound of that monster, and those big jugs sticking out of the hood! I love big jugs...

...sticking out the hood...yeah...that's it...yeah...

Yeah, stock is the goal. If I was going to hack it up then I would just build something crazy without a body. Anyway I finally uploaded my pictures...

The sun light on this one was blinding so I got it out of focus.

the electric start is because it's going under a fiberglass 1/2 scale 65 shelby cobra body and i don't want to cut the body up to give me access to the pull start. My biggest concern was if anyone had any good or bad info on either of the two engine mfg.

may i ask, where you purchased that sweet lookin body? You may want to check out carrollsupply.com, mine was under 2 bills..free shippin...good co. To do bussiness with....

Did you know you can rotate the starter recoil pul start to front back top and bottom? You could have a clone in the back and just turn the recoil to face the seat.

I got a 340 Rupp sled engine I will sell you for $125 cash plus shipping. Here is a pic. Not sure about that exhaust but it does work and runs good. This motor is small and would fit in the back of your kart.

If I was you I would look into a FL250 Honda Odyssey Rear end and gear reduction box. The FL250 unit has the gear box/axle/rear driven clutch along with disc brakes all in one unit. It all sits at the very back of the frame as well. Lots of room to add engine. And no need for jack shaft. Also has a parking brake.

After looking at your kart I bet an FL250 frame would sit right in there. The rear anyway. Just a thought. You can pick these old Ody's in basket case form for pretty cheap.

Here is some Fl250 rear end shots.

Slap slap my rupp engine has no ES. Slap Slap...

Anyway the Fl250 frame may be an option. You could have hand controls as well. Not much room for pedal down there.

I have a few Ody so if this idea rings your bell I can measure the wheels from front to back? I also have a FL250 frame with complet front end and steering I would sell dirt cheap to a member.

bighead, I actually have an old fl250 I had forgotten about. I got running for my uncles kids years ago. But now that they are grown and off to college I think it's just sitting in a barn on his property. I may try to get over there and see about reclaiming it. If nothing else maybe I can use the rear end out of it. Thanks for the idea!

Been looking at your body and the FL250 rearend setup. With the Fl250 the driven and gear reduction unit sit up high. with this set up you would not have to worry about the sprocket and Rotor being low to the ground. You would be able to make the your body sit low. The brake caliper would also sit in the back very nice. Also the Fl250 frame would give it a real car look. You could maybe mod the front J-arm suspension to work as well. I would think the Ody frame would be plenty strong. Easy to shorten as well. Great heavy duty spindles as well.

Would the Ody hand Control be somthing you might do? I know you said stock loooking. But that Ody wheel would look race ready in that little car. Then you would not even have to worry about foot controls.

What about the Ody 250 engine? The engine also sit really low in the frames? I know it would fit under there. The pipe could be moded to go forward and out one side perhaps in side pipe cut out. You could have a hand made pipe but that is pricey. The Fl250 motor is tiny. You can get the Goki electric starters for them as well. To work you may have to go with water cooled after market head though.

I am willing to bet that with the Ody roll bars off that body would sit perfect to the ody frame. The steering shaft and wheel may even work with a knuckle in the main steering shaft.

Okay I admit I am a Odyssey freak. So your little project has really got me thinking. I have modded Ody with all the BS out of the way. I will take a pic and post it for you.

Here are the pic. This is a Fl250. The frame/motor/motor mounts are all in the factory location. As is the rear end set up but this has a wider axle than stock. Notice how he gearbox/clutch and disc brakes are up high. The would let you sit the car low in the back. I like how the engine is low and the clutch is high. It would be solid as well. All the guess work would be gone as well. Plus you already have all the parts.

The Ody steeing raduis sucks. But you can grind off the steering stops for 100% better turning.

In pic #4 look how little of the motor is above the frame rail. That might be perfect for the low slant back of your body. The pipe would be the promblem though.

Nice! I think having a Honda Chassis under your car would be very cool. If nothing else the rearend set up is good stuff. You kill 3 birds with one stone.
