Ok, so I ended up getting a 6.5 hp clone. Decided not to go with the 7, though I may get one when they come on sale again. What kind of mods and parts should I do to this motor? I am looking at spending 200 - 300 on it. I already have a bunch of flanges for making a header (helps to have a buddy who runs a c&c plasma cutter), and I'm assuming that removing the governor would be in order. What other mods can I do for not too much, that will give me a decent boost in power? One of the things I'm hoping to do is have an external aluminium tank made (have a buddy who makes them too, lol) and hooking up a pulse pump. I would also like to go to a gx390 carb on it.

:wai: If your dead set on removing the gov'r, the 1st thing I would do is buy a billet rod with rod bearings. With a little carb. work and a decent header and air cleaner, you can twist that engine to 5200 rpms before floating the valves. I also think that a 390 carb. is not going to get it, to much fuel.

For cheap I'd yank that muffler and air filter housing, you have a flange cut so make some exhaust for it, then buy an air filter adapter and an air filter to match. Run it for awhile and check your spark plug, you will probably have to 're jet the carb.

I'm not dead set on removing the governor, just looking for the most bang for the buck. I'm thinking of shooting for 10-12 hp output. I have an airfilter that might work, its from a cold air intake off a car, would that be overkill?

You will have to re jet the carb....
Or you CAN use the 390 carb instead of re jetting the original carb. It's a popular bolt on mod for the smaller clones. It usually works great with no mods, after the intake/exhaust is modded. It flows more/better and it's jet should be a great base line. Just keep an eye on the plug....

So, I've been slowly working on my kart (it sucks working out in the cold, hopefully it will warm up soon). I decided to go with a complete revamp of the kart. I recently got my tank built for it, actually looks really nice! :D
For my engine I have decided to go with this kit:
http://www.affordablegokarts.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Session_ID=250cc1ce3cdfb52efa8f8f57a01db125&Screen=PROD&Store_Code=A&Product_Code=BBFB&Category_Code=BOK1

Also I plan to add:
22mm mikuni carb
carb adaptor w/ pulse
Stainless steel valve set (with retainers, keepers, and lash caps)
Honda flat top piston (with rings of course)
Honda coil (gx200)
NGK spark plug (bp6es)
Copper head gasket

I also got my materials to convert it to a live rear axle. I also am going to go to a slightly different rear tire size, I am currently running 4.10/3.50-6, and I am going to a 13x5.00-6.
And here are some pictures of my new tank:

Get the 196 it has all the aftermarket support (it's a clone GX200). The 208 has a different size rod journal or wrist pin and you can't use the ARC rod on them to the best of my knowledge. They rarely go on sale for $99.00. I am going to pick one up (like I need another engine) too good to pass up.

I actually did get the 196 cc, but I ended up getting a 208 as well. I don't need any more engines either, as the other day I was in a princess auto, and got 2 x 13 hp motors for $99 each! They even have electric start! Not sure why they has them that cheap, but they have full warranty. Now I just have to think of something to use them on. I am planning on doing the upgrades to the 196 cc clone though.

I'm building up the 6.5 clone. No way the 13 hp will fit without major cutting and fabrication. I want to keep the Fiberglass body as original as possable. I am converting it to a live rear axle though.
