I was riding down the road with my 6 HP tecumseh engine and suddenly the engine started making a clicking sound and then just stopped. Now when i try to pull the pull cord to start it all i get is click-click-click. What could this be?

There could be a problem with the rocker arms falling off or a rod fell loose (not the rod that attaches to the piston). When i had my 6hp power sport the rocker arm came off the rod .

Wish I knew what any of that meant! I will probably take it to a small engine repair shop and let them see it. Thanks though!

Ok so if you dont intend on finding the problem and fixing it yourself then why ask what it could be.

Could you go into more detail on what you mean? I am a "newb" at this.

Unfortunately, that would be a best case scenario... worst case is you snapped a conrod...

Sounds like it's time to get your hands dirty; rip into it & let's find out what happened...

Question 1. When you pull the starter rope, does it have the "usual" resistance?

It has a considerably (maybe just slightly) ease of pull. Still requires some force

Judging off of this, your connecting rod isn't broken. Like the many before me, it's likely a valvetrain problem. When was the last time you checked the valve lash? Loose valves could have easily caused the rocker arms to go places they're not supposed to. Right now I can't think of anything else that could be realistically your problem, but I'll keep thinking.

The first thing to do is pull the plug and check to see if you see the piston is coming up and down with a light through the spark plug hole. If not, it is a broken rod.

If you can see the piston moving, pull the valve cover on top (square cover with OHV stamped into it) and check to see both the rocker arms are intact. If you get to this point, come back and we'll tell you how to fix that!;)

Well to be honest I have no idea what the valveTrain is or anything about that!

When I pull the start the engine while looking through the spark plug hole I see something coming up and down. Here are some pics (if they didn't load I'll post them soon)

The top of this valve spring does not look right. Like the big washer ring is gone or something. Thats a guess since i havent opened one up in a while.

I see what you mean. When I check it out tomorrow I'll investigate some more. Could that actually be causing all these problems though?

On anther note, I am having some serious trouble getting the **** clutch off! I undid my set screws and bolts and it won't budge. Can't be related I don't believe just a grumpy clutch.

I'll get back with y'all tomorrow :auto:
