yea it's 5/8.
Yes, I drill a hole in the wheel hub but I need it to hold on somehow to the rod. That's why I want to drill thru so I can lock it. My last options is to weld it but 1. I'm not good. 2. what if I want to take it apart.

Is that 5/8th rod? I wouldn't drill it. You might try making a hub of sorts out of a split locking collar.

I like the progress so far. The first thing I thought when I saw the 2x6 lumber frame was "how heavy is this thing going to be?"
Anywhere you can save weight along the way will reap rewards in the end. Firstly, you want the motor to be able to move it. Secondly you are going to have to push/store this big rig at some point.

Is the middle axle just loosely held in place in those slots in the frame? To provide some suspension action, while the end axles bear the weight?

Keep the pics coming!
Oh, and what happened to the May due date?? I know, I know, I have kids too, and almost zero free time...!

Actually it's not as heavy as it looks. Weigh almost the same as the metal/steel gokart frame we have.

Correct the middle axle is loose, see picture

Hahahahaha. The kids are just partial, it's more of owning a property. So many projects. Hard to choose which is priority. This project would be easier if I had a plan to go by. Right now I'm going by trials and errors.

OK! rear axle is complete with wheels mounted.

Also, got all my steering parts for less than $20.

It should be safe enough. It won't be use for racing. Probably won't be going fast anyway for it's weight.

Here's a prefitting of the steering. First time welding. Tested by dropping from 3rd floor apartment and withstand. I need to replace the washer, it was too big. Also need to wrap some metal around the wood so it doesn't break apart. I will connect the rest after I make the housing/cabin.
