Hello Guys! Recently, I have been looking into an electric start system for my Predator 212. My Predator, more specifically, is a later 2018 Non-Hemi EPA model. Would a GX200 electric start kit work on the crankshaft because I was reading that the taper angle is not the same. Before I buy one, I want to make sure I am not wasting money. Some background on why I want electric start for my engine is because I want to make an electric system to power an on-board computer. I am using a Raspberry Pi to make a tachometer and some other cool trinkets that I will display on an LCD screen mounted to the steering wheel. Thank you for the help!

Better off using a dedicated battery and just recharging it when nessisary...
The charging coil from these sets isn't all that good for recharging a battery that is for the electric start...

That is true for simplicity, but wouldn't it be so cool to have an ignition switch that looks like the ones fighter pilots use to shoot missiles, along with a red push button to start the engine?

That might just be my opinion but something that looks cool and is totally functional is a win/win in my book.

Rumor has it that people have gotten the clone flywheel to work on a non-hemi crankshaft without issues. ARC Racing, who makes Flywheels, says the tapers are slightly different. Call ARC. Ask the experts.

If trying this, I’d lap the flywheel to the crank with course, then fine grinding compound.

for all I know the Predators use the same taper as Kohler did..
So a Kohler flywheel should fit..

downside no known billet flywheel has charging magnets or can be equipped with such.
Soo while you could install the gear to add the starter.. you cannot recharge the battery on the kart with such.
A cast flywheel (stock) is the only thing that would recharge the battery as far as I know.
And that should be handled carefully (no drop on transport or it might crack, no excessive speeds or it migh split up such internal crack...etc)

Up to you!

personally I'd just buy some other engine that comes with e-start ;)

I know about any electric motor can be used as an alternator but I haven't seen any way to set up a starter to do both in turn (I've looking into it). What you can do is have you starter a flywheel that fits and fit a pully somewhere in the drive line for a charging system.
Also something that I've been thinking about is using a cheap cordless drill on the crankshaft, it would take some fabricating and probably would be work to not look like ****.

Did you get to see what kind of volts it had?
Also it might have been preferable to run it off the crankshaft, but space is not always there I Know

Nope. Haven’t done any testing.
The alternator should turn on at 35mph, which is 3500 engine RPM. It should put out 35 amps at 35mph.

I’ve left the jackshaft long, so if it isn’t practical I can put a pulley on the jackshaft instead of the axel. I’ve got a 60:11 sprocket ratio. So with a pulley on the jackshaft (depending on the size) it will turn on sooner and be able to put out more amps.
