Hey guys, i've been thinking about something here lately. I have a 5.5HP Tecumseh OHV Step-Shaft. I was thinking about mounting a starter to my frame with a pulley welded on it, and mounting a pulley onto my shaft right beside my clutch. Using a belt drive, i would use the wiring system I have set up to start it with a 6V Lawnmower battery. Do you think this would be a good idea?

i wouldn't weld to my shaft on the engine. I just have an old electric starter layin around for a mower and i thought it would be kinda easy, easier than spending $150 on a new starter.

i think it would be a better idea to sell the craftsman starter and buy a used tecumseh starter

What does that have anything to do with it? Trust me, from knowledge, I know, if i want to actually mount the correct one to the engine, It'd cost me about $150 because I also have to buy the mounts. I wanna do this cheap and easy. With this idea, I have the accessory of charging the battery also. That is why I like it. Instead of charging the battery a lot and ruining the cells, I can have it being charged.
