I have a go cart a customer dropped off and wants a new motor put on and all controls wired up. I have purchased a 6.5 horse Greyhound motor from harbor freight. I need to find a way to make an electric start, put a battery on it and some kind of alternator or stator system. I also need to find the right kind of pulleys for the centrifugal clutch set up. I am going to post up some pics today of what i am starting with and hopefull one of you has an idea of where i can get some parts. This go cart is for someone that is hadicapped and wont be able to pull start the cart so is going to have full hand controls also. ay ideas will be helpfull. thanks.

Im not sure if this helps but. awhile back i saw a go kart that someone put a pulley on the top of the rollcage, above the drivers head. A rope was attached to the pullstart, through the pulley, and the new handle was just next to the drivers ear. When you are sitting in the kart, you grab the handle which is by your ear/shoulder area and pull forward. If they are strong enough to pull it, but just cant stand, or whatever the problem, this is a good solution. This also means you dont need a battery or starter.

Hey thats a pretty cool idea there 02mx-5.

Some of the engines like yours are available with electric starters and charging systems. It might make more sense to return yours and just use one of those instead.

You'll find some more related info here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...lt&cd=1&q=electric+start+small+engine&spell=1
(if you find electric starter/charging system add-on components to fit a Honda GX200, it'll most likely fit your 6.5 Greyhound copy of the this Honda model)

Did you already buy a centrifugal clutch equipped with a pulley? (if so what model?) Most guys run chain final drives on karts but if you wanna run a belt setup just post your axels diameter and we can probably link some available pulleys and some gear ratio options for you. (but we'd need to know your rear tire circumference or diameter for that)

this cart has a centrifugal clutch and jackshaft already so im goin to try to use it. one of my buddies from the shop knows where to get some of the parts for the clutch. he used some set up he found on the internet that just so happened to work. those links will work ill have to modify some stuff but the ideas are ver useful thanks.. i have an old stator and flywheel from a quad i had so i think im going to try that electrica set up but i think its going to be trial and error.

i would dump the cash into a 13 from HF and just get the whole thing... as for charging, well thats a little easier said than done. you can run a thin v belt off the engine and feed that to a small GM alternator. DONT FORGET YOUR DIODES!!!!!!! its really a crap shoot because there isnt much meat to mount anything on a regular kart frame.

if i ran an alternator from a car would that technically work? i assume it would. would it be better to use a system from a motorcycle cause it can charge a smaller mc battery. i think it could work it seems like the same principle. not sure how that diode stuff works on a motorcycle. stator and flywheel im a little familiar with from 2 stroke quads. thanks for the replies.
