Alright, a buddy at work dropped off his kids electric pit bike. He said he road it for about 4 months and when winter hit he parked it for the winter. He charger it up last week and nothing. No display showing power or anything. I get it and battery is reading 7.0v after charging it myself. When it test the battery voltage when the charger is plug in it reads 48v. Charger output says it is 24v and reads 29v on my meter. I messaged Functional Artist about it and he believes the battery sat all winter and it killed the battery. It did sit in his garage and we got -15f temps and it was brutally cold all winter here in Michigan.

The bike is covered in plastic panels and a typical pain in the @ss to get to everything. I haven't pulled the batteries yet, there are 2. Most likely the batteries and I agree with FA. I believe they are lead acid batteries and the winter killing them makes sense. All this "voltage" crap on bikes/karts is new to me. Lol. Anyones input or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. :cheers2:

Don't worry Hellion, pics coming soon.

Where is the 48.3V reading coming from? (with charger attached?)

The last pic shows a 36V charge port

Any other identification &/or spec labels?

The 48v reading is when the charger is plugged in and getting reading from the battery. The charger says 20v output and it tests at 29v output at the end of the charger. I'm clueless on why it is reading 48v. It has 2 batteries which I plan on pulling in the next few days to see what they say.

Id bet the batteries are toast.
Lead acids can be de sulfated by hot charging them. Lots of amps with a dumb charger. Not the half pound digital ones. The big heavy core and coil type.
Never to be like new but you might get a little life out of them while you work the corner for battery money

Not my bike or money, so he will have to work the corner for battery money! He does work a lot of OT. :ROFLMAO:

Alright, finally got back to this bike for a coworker. Got the batteries out finally, and I can't seem to find any replacements online other then some stupid bulk buys from Aliexprees and ali baba. Any of you electric experts have any ideas on a replacement or other options?

Thanks FA and WTR. Yes FA, these dimensions are x2. Thanks for the input. Upgrading to Lithium would be a great option! More AH, faster charging and less maintenance compared to lead acid.

Well, after a ton of searching, I found the batteries for $100 each! Only place in the US I have found that has them.

Told my coworker and he said that ain't bad!!! :ROFLMAO: If it was mine I would upgrade to Lithium, but being this guy doesn't know anything about this, I don't want to deal with it. Waiting to see if he wants to spend the money.

Can you shoehorn a China engine in there, 50cc two-smoker? A 79cc Hazard Fraught? Does this bike also come in a gasser version?
I'd emulate that if so.

Can you fit 3 6volt sla batteries in there?
In series that makes 18v. They are considerably cheaper.

Im sure you've scoured the powerwheels mod pages right?

If it was mine, I'd go in a totally new direction. I'm kind of hoping he doesn't want to do it and says "give me $50 for it". Then I can do something fun with it! :ROFLMAO:

It has 2 18v batteries ran in series, so 36v. It is a 36v system.

I really don't want to modify it if it is his. He is not into this stuff at all. He bought it new for his kid last fall and just wants it to run for him.
