So, batteries are on order and should be here in the week. Thoughts are turning to charging. What's the best route to go down. Obviously they will be in series so 36v.

Is a 36v charger the best option and possible? Or will I need to buy a 12v charger Andy charge all separately. This would mean making provision to separate the batteries for charging.

I know the controller has a charging port. Could this be used if I got a 36v charger.

Sorry for the naive questions. Just learning and get quite confused by reading various things on the old internet.

Cheers for any assistance guys.

Yes, that's what the charging port is for. (connecting an appropriate charger) :2guns:

Here are some 36V chargers for scooters & Ebikes.

While reading about chargers, I found this very interesting.

*Do not use automotive or motorcycle battery chargers to charge SLA batteries. These type of battery chargers are designed for charging wet cell lead-acid batteries and if used on SLA batteries may cause permanent damage to the battery and equipment due to overcharging. and overheating.

They also make 36V chargers for golf carts.

Hi FA.

Funnily enough. That's the one bit that kept cropping up. Don't use the car chargers on the sla batteries. Thanks.

I will sort a couple out.

Decided that I am going to have a dry run of wiring it all up. A desktop exercise so to speak. I can then check everything I do before stripping the karts down. Can be sure it's all sorted and right that way then.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Leonsmum.

I have put some more information on your post, hope this helps. I will try and also have a tally up to see how much i have spent so far, might be something that i would rather i didn't do though, he he. I have had double the costs though as i have had to buy two of everything as i am doing two karts, one for each son. :surrender:

I have tonight had a bit of a play with plugging items in and seeing how it all went. Managed to get some results. the ignition switch works, the throttle works and the motor responds as it should. so all good

In fact, sid and others, i have a few questions, which you may be able to confirm/help with if you would be so kind?

I have some spare connections on the controller.
Yellow and Black - I presume this is for the brake
Red and Black - I think this is the output for the battery meter?
Red and Black - Labelled up Brake light
Brown, Grey and Black - I think this is the speed selection or something? If i leave it as is its "high" speed, two connected its medium and all three its low speed. would this be right?

Aslo i have got the charging port connected although there is a third black wire from the port, does this go direct to the negative feed from the battery?

I have got a fwd/reverse switch to fit in the system. I presume as this just reverses the polarity of the wires it goes in the feed from the controller to the motor?

any assistance would be m,uch appreciated. Once i have this cracked i can get on with stripping down and fabricating the kart end of things.:thumbsup:

cheers

Ben
