Hello, all!

This is my first post on this forum and I have pretty much zero experience with go karts. I am planning to build this go kart from scratch with one key change: I'm hoping to be able to make it electric. I have never done anything with go karts and I need some help. I don't know what batteries, controller, and electric motor will be best so please help! Thanks!

motor mounting plate, clutch and axle sprocket.
(and maybe the gas pedal)

well, that is, actually you need a mounting plate and an axle sprocket, but most likely of different size;
depending on what motor you're going to use.

So personally, I'd say get ALL parts (incl clutch!) since chances are, you will not find an electric motor to push a two seater kart too easily.
and you'd like to test the kart with a combustion engine ;)

Huh? A 48v my1020 would motor that cart just fine for the 2 boys modeling that kart in the linked PDF.

Hey drm

I am really inexperienced with any of this stuff so can you give any suggestions on motor, controller, batteries, and where to buy all of this stuff? I want the kart to go at least 30mph or so. Also any parts on the parts list that I would need to change would be really helpful.

Hey guys, first time posting on here, but found some great information. But im still stuck, my Ekart is basicly going, I have a 500w 36v 17.5ah motor with 11t sprocket, chain driven to 55t dead axle on the rear. Gps speedo (not greatly accurate) avg's me at 19kmh at the moment. My question is what would be best batteries to use. Also a controller is something Im also stuck on. Any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated. Currently Im using a couple old 18v 1.5ah batteries to scoot it along, with a on off swith, dangerous i know, but makes it fun at the moment. Only run it for maximum of 5mins. Again thanks guys.

Please always specify budget. I suggest going AC induction motor. I plan to go this route since you get regen braking that feeds some of braking power back into the batteries, better reliability since there is no brushes to worry about, greater efficiency, and more gearing options due to the higher RPM's of the AC induction motors.

That is 7460 watts or 10 horsepower. I plan to go this route with that AC-9 system. I have an old series-wound brushed DC system consisting of a ES-22-2 motor and AXE7234 DC motor speed controller, but I just hate how inefficient it is and that you get no regen braking with series-wound DC motor setups.

Be sure to select C-Face option so you do not get the open face that is used on golf carts. The option I plan to go for is 48 volt, 450 amp, with C-face mount option.
