First off, let me say that I'm new to electric karts.

Ok so I was thinking of building a go kart uses 3 12 volt motors using a golf kart controller as a throttle. But my idea was somehow having a switch to control how many batteries will be active. So the "1" switch will have 1 active, "2" will have 2 active and "3" will have all batteries active.

I had this idea so you can adjust how much throttle response to have. If you know if this is possible please let me know how to wire it. And I am only wanting to use one motor not 3.

Might be too ambitious. But then again I'm a newbie at electric go karts.

I've read that using a switch to choose how many batteries (and therefore voltage) you're running can work. How it would apply with three separate motors, I'm unsure.

Why the need for three motors?

1) why 3 motors
2) you are over complicating this greatly with your switches...
3) just run 36v (3 12v batteries) a hall effect throttle/controller setup you can adjust the ammout of speed by applying more/less throttle.
