Electric Cart with Drill Engine

Hello Everyone,

I have two drills that I disassembled for their motors. The motors are rs-550s-18v.

• Volatage : 3.6-24V DC
• Rotation speed : 3000-24000rpm

I am hoping this can get a cart to a speed of 5-15 MPH with a load of <200 lbs. My only problem is that I need gears for this and I am not sure which ones to buy. There is a gear currently on the shaft of the motor that I can probably remove. The axle for the wheels is .5" in diameter and the motor is .1" in diameter.


Is what I am asking even feasible with the motors I have?

UHM.. the most powerfull rs550s motor I can find in a spec sheet is ~58W and that'd be the high speed 14k rpm version..
the low speed (3000-4000 rpm) range from 5-10 Watt

You will NOT MOVE...

check the internal resistance (ohm meter at the contacts) and let us know what you got.

an original Mabuchi rs550 (and I'm afraid you'll have a clone) can reach up to 97W IIRC;
two of those will move, disappointing, but they at least should.

You'd be better off buying a Powerwheel on craigslist.

Edit: or a complete drill so you can use the gears from that. I've got a 24V Bosch drill with no battery I plan to mate to the input shaft of a self propped mower's 90 degree gearbox.
