ekart - MY1020 motor with #35 drive sprocket

Hello, first of all this is nice to be here in this DIY Go Kart blog.

Okay, I am starting a project of ekart. I would need some advices on the sprocket side.

I have a MY1020 1000W, 48V motor with 11 tooth sprocket for 8mm chain. (http://tncscooters.com/product.php?sku=106175)

The problem is that I have a kart with a drive sprocket for #35 chain.

My motor shaft is dual D bore with 10mm diameter. I didnt found any engine sprockets for #35 chain that fit with an inner diameter of 10mm (0.393"). In other words, I'm working with to completely different standards and I need a solution.

I think of buying a larger sprocket, say with 1/2" of inner diameter and weld it on the original sprocket of the motor.

The other solution would be to find another electrical motor build with american standards but this solution is the very last one that I will try...

Anyone would have a suggestion to my problem?

Thank you for the suggestion. That is effectively one thing that I thought. But finally I decided to weld the drive sprocket to the existing hub on the rear axle.

Now its time for the real fun... The motor controller... I will design an H-Bridge with 8 mosfets... I'll try to post my progress...

ORLY :D Please post progress/how to's... I'd love to see how these are built/created. Nobody has a real DIY/how to on pwm controllers ):

To make your life easier, sell/return that motor and get a some more money and buy a better motor. When you convert watts to hp, your only going to get 1.5hp. Getting 1.5hp is running it at its max.

Buy a Mars motor search this: mars me0709
This motor has 18hp. Remember 18hp(electric) > 18hp(gas).
Example:
Lets say you want 4hp(3,000watts or 3kW) with electric motors you have 2 options:
1) 24v & 125amps
or
2) 48v & 63Amps(62.5 exactly)
As voltage increases, so does rpm. If you want your cart to last longer go for voltage over rpm, but if you want burn-out power Amps over voltage. They need to meet equally to get best potential out of motor.

There around $450, then you'll need a controller so that another $400.

You can try to use 1kW motor, but don't expect speeds greater than 15 if not 10mph. Your going to have to use low gearing so there's not that much strain on motor at stand still.
