Hi everyone,

All the time on e-bay I see these "new in box" motorbike engines and gearboxes, and it's quite obvious they are not complete.
e.g. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BRAND-NEW-LO...ryZ29705QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

What is required to make these engines run? I know that they need a carburetor, and exhaust, but I read somewhere that you need a wiring loom and some other stuff to get them to run.
Does anyone here know what is needed to get a running engine?

sorry i dont have a better pic than this of my setup but it does show everything you need.

you will need.
a CDI
a regulator rectifier (the engine has an alternator as far as i can see)
the little circular metal thing which i forgot what is called.
you will also need the coil and sparkplug thing.

i could find the names if my dad remembers or you could take in that photo and ask a wrecker what they are and a price.

this is for electric start aswell, as i see it gives you an option.

afaik you need the CDI, coil, voltage regulator, carb, air filter, fuel lines and filter and tank, an oil change (shipping oil sucks), clutch cables and throttle, exhaust. i might be forgetting something.

alternatively get a cheap or non running minibike and get that engine, and you just swap over the stuff. 49cc->110+ isnt always compatible, but 110 and 125 and 145 are usually all the same. you'll get all the electrical components and gearing, cables fuel lines, chain and sprockets, wheels if you can use them, and often times a speedo.

Environmentally: 4 strokes > 2 strokes

Power-Wise: 2 strokes > 4 strokes

I prefer racing longer and losing than dying younger and winning.

Everything important in a gokart: 2 stroke > 4 stroke

Honestly, who needs good fuel economy in their kart?

Thanks to everyone for the info about what else is needed. I think I might get a full bike engine w. electrics from a wreckers if I need one.
