If anybody is interested, I'll tear it down and check "outta the box" bolt torq, check clearances, try to get pics of the important parts.

Any questions or need pics, jus ask. I'm in no hurry, actually I don't have anything to put it on yet.

1st thing I checked was crank endplay, it's right at .010", that's the 1st πŸ‘ it'll get from me.

Head bolt torq 18-20 ft/lbs πŸ‘
Side cover bolts 17-19 ft/lbs πŸ‘

Valve lash, both set at .003", locked down, and marked by the builder πŸ‘

Head gasket was .0415" thick, head chamber looks to be 21-22cc, πŸ‘ depends on what sparkplug you will use.

I'll cc it later, but should have around 8.6-8.7:1 CR right outta the box. πŸ‘

It wouldn't hurt to unshroud the valves jus a bit. It'll drop CR, but a head gasket change will get it back.

Piston to deck is .002"-.0025" πŸ‘

The dished piston will probably measure 3- 3.2cc

Keep going I’m following along.
I'll pull the side cover tomorrow, and have a look see around the crank, rod and cam.

I can check for cam lift, but gotta send it to my sbc engine guru for duration, lsa, and icl.
Stock cams are not worth his time. I'd say it's the cl-1 grind, anyways.

Update.
I have a buyer for this one, so I won't be pulling the rod and piston, rings for piston to cylinder clearance and ring end gaps. Maybe the next one.

Here's some more info.

The crank counter weight has been cut down to clear the cams compression release mechanism, πŸ‘.

It's a lil tight for me, I'm sure it'll be perfectly fine. But I'm gonna add a .005" cam shim between the block and the cam. Jus for peace of mind.

Seems like i had to add 2 and 1 on the other side of cam on my predator 224, but it also has an aftermarket camshaft.

On the crank pin end, it has also has been cut down to clear the cams exhaust lobe, πŸ‘.

Even tho the plastic governor parts are not installed, it still has the crank shaft steel governor gear, no big deal. It helps oil sling anyway, πŸ‘

You can see the stock rod, bolts were torqued to 11-12 ft/lbs πŸ‘

Theres nothing special about the camshaft.
It has narrower lobes for the 58mm crankshaft, πŸ‘

One thing I did notice, is that it is a stock cam, but it has .222" - .223" lift on both the intake and exhaust. Jus like the predator 224 plastic geared cam.

MOST stock cams I have measured has been .224" lift on the intake and .231" lift on the exhaust.

There is something different about this cam.

My final thoughts on the Ducar 224 is, for the price tag you cannot beat it. πŸ‘

If you had a 196 or any 212 that needs a refreshing, this Ducar 224 would be cheaper. πŸ‘

As for "bolt on and go", I recommend always check bolt torq and valve lash on any outta the box engine.

I'm get this one on the test stand with magnetic drain plugs, get some heat cycles on it, 2 or 3 oil changes, recheck bolt torq, valve lash and maybe bolt it on the grandsons buggy for some testing, before it's gone.

I'm gonna order 3 more.
We'll see what comes of them.

Any questions jus ask, I know I missed the piston, ring end gaps, I'm sure they are perfectly fine, but I like to know anyway.

valve spring installed height, all heads are different, that's jus something you gotta check yourself.

Here's something that i found interesting, when I pulled the stock carb off.

I jus replaced the stock carb with a .675" bored SA carb, and WAS gonna open the isolator plate up a bit, but somebody already done it for me.

So is the bore on the stock carb ( the one that came mounted on the engine ) any bigger than the typical 212 cc carb. Because I think what you are trying to tell us is that the factory opened up the isolator plate. On purpose to work with a larger carb.

I don't think it's a bigger bore stock carb.

It might be the intake runner is different on the 224 head.

There's a very noticeable difference on the exhaust side. 212 gaskets and muffler flanges don't fit, they have to be widened a lil bit.

It's a hauyi brand carb, I've never seen anything special about them, I'd say the typical .580"-.590" bore.
I'll see if I got an old one laying around and measure it.

I dont like to tear apart a good running carb to jus measuring it, if it anit broke, dont fix it, right πŸ˜† πŸ˜… πŸ™ƒ πŸ˜„

I've measured some stock ruixing carbs, that measured .600"- .610", they are the stock carb on the Ducar 212.
It's a much better stock carb then most I've seen.
It responds well with a .022" low speed jet on a stock engine.

Most other stock carbs, I can't get passed a .020" low, and keep up with the engine.

There's something different in the low speed circuit.
