am assembling a dual lawn mower engine kart for hardcore off road karting using victor mowers linked to a single torque converter. havnt seen many dual engine kart except for a dual chain saw engine kart that had fast speed once in motion but poor power at low speeds. is there a reason these dont really exist? the two engines are around 4-5 HP. just wondering if there would be a problem with this setup?
Your talking about doing whats called a freight train or siamese setup, two engines direct to one jackshaft with a clutch on one end... clutch to axle sprocket, yes it has been and still is done.

Apparently you've only seen old 80cc Mc49's, or old Clinton A490 or old Power Product AH47, West Bend 580's
Take a peep at some single and dual Mc 91's, 101,s, West Bend 820's Yamaha KT100's heck most any 100cc-135cc class and you'll find some mean screamers at any speed.
The 820 is rated stock for 10hp @8k rpm 134cc
I just got threw rebuilding my second 820 for my dual 59 Bug
I'd put it against your dual victor in a single or dual race any day of the week
