I picked up a Manco 415 kart locally with the Tecumseh 5.0 PowerSport engine. Almost ready for sale but there was no drivetrain or chain/clutch cover on it, just the metal support plate (#106 illustrated) that the plastic cover attached to. I removed it when I replaced the clutch since the cover is no longer available. Does anyone know of a generic or universal cover for that kart? Wondering if I should put the metal plate back on then fabricate a cover I could attach to it. I tried a universal chain guard from BMI Karts but it won't fit. It hits the oil fill area machined into the block plus it only covers part of the clutch.

Thanks

This is what I had hoped to do with it, this is from a Carter youth kart I restored a couple of years ago. Didn't work out.

In the same boat. I have it but it's brittle and cracked. I have been looking for months. I did find one, but it was around $50.

Mine shows as a 3362. I saw a lot listed, but when I go the specific page, shows out of stock.

I found the same part # (10750) but no one stocks it. That's why I asked if anyone had made a custom one possibly. Reliable Go Karts said he just recently tossed one in the dumpster because it was taking up shelf space.

It wouldn't be that hard to get some 18 or 16ga sheet metal, cut it to length, and bend it in a bench vice and put it on.

Curious... Why is this so needed???
You have to oil the clutch every 2hr of use, Seems like that would be a real pain spending 15-30 mins on?off replacing the covers for 1 min stop and go sort of maintenance......

The reason it's needed is safety. If I were to sell it to a family with kids, there's a chance one of them could get their hair or a scarf caught in the drivetrain and cause significant injury. It shipped with a complete cover but the previous owner must have tossed it.

Thanks

This is a shame. Pretty graphic. Happens so quickly.

Keep your hair up and wear a freaking helmet. Chance of hair getting caught in chain and sprockets, drops heavily. You'll have a higher chance of something else going wrong, than getting your hair caught. If you do sell it, make them sign a form stating you cannot be held liable for any injuries.

If you really need one badly, find a sheet metal shop or a shop that does metal laser cutting, and have them burn one out for you.

I wouldn't worry too much about a chain guard. Use the not-so-common common sense and you will not get injured as often.

It has an access hole to oil the clutch.

I understand your reasoning, sometimes kids don't think about these things though. They just want to jump on and go. I would feel better knowing something was in place before I sold it.

From Azusa Engineering:

LIVE AXLE WARNINGS:
This web site sells rear axles known as “live axles.” When installed on a go-kart (including go-kart kits sold on this site) and some other vehicles, live axles may spin at a high rate of speed, even if the vehicle is merely being pushed with the engine off. Rotating axles can “grab” and entangle any items dangling near them, whether carried, worn, or simply attached to riders or bystanders. Long hair and loose clothing are common hazards. Any contact between such items and a rotating live axle can cause serious injury or death to riders or bystanders.

Always equip and operate a live axle with an appropriate axle guard. One such guard option may be purchased by the linear foot on this web site. (See part No. 1409). While axle guards are intended to lessen the risk of entanglement by the live axle, they do not eliminate the risk completely. So, all riders must fully enclose head hair with an appropriate helmet. Riders and bystanders must never operate or approach the kart with unrestrained long hair, clothing or any other items that could come onto contact with the rear axle or any other moving parts of the vehicle.

I'm thinking of making one from fiberglass. And I agree, some simple safety precautions may prevent an issue, however I would feel terrible if someone got injured no matter what the reason.

You could also covert to a torque converter, they come with the covers. It would also increase the value of the kart by a bit to offset the cost.

Similar to this.
