First, I am new to this forum and to go-karts. I bought a Motorsports Promotions INC Citgo kart and the the clutch is missing. I have looked on Amazon and I am just not sure what I should get to make this bad boy go. Any help from you all would be appreciated. Not interested in racing, planned to wrap the kart and use it in parades etc as promotion for my Wrap business and to let grandkids ride.

I have attached pics of the motor and missing drive train and belt drive. Thanks

Thanks for the reply!! So if I was to add the wet clutch what else would I need to make that belt connection?

The proper timing belt pulley. I’m going to tell you right up front. It would be cheaper to buy a new live axle, bearings, hubs, rims, axle sprocket and TAV II CVT 30 series kit.

Here is a video of a wet clutch installation
...just so you can see how complicated they, can be

* Also, FYI, Denny mentioned/recommended using a TAV for a low speed parade vehicle
...because (the other option) standard centrifugal clutches do not like to be operated at low speeds
...& will overheat & fail very quickly if/when used at low speed :cheers2:

The kart had a 5mm timing belt clutch, 23 teeth on the clutch pulley. Action Products out of Tempe, AZ made the promotional go karts with a Briggs 3.5hp special length crankshaft to fully support the Max-Torque clutch. Would NOT be good for parades because you are driving too slow and to much stop and go driving. The clutch worked fine when riding around the back yard but it never was built for parades.

I bought it with a predator motor on it. Is there a way to use that engine and get a max torque clutch or would it be better to convert over to a chain drive?

Well as far as parades go I guess I could just put on a trailer and use it for promotion that way. I'll ride it around the neighborhood.

Just verify for me that the drilled and tapped hole in the end of the crank is 5/16-24. We do make a plug to go in the bore of the clutch so the pressure holding on the clutch is on the CRANKSHAFT not on the clutch. Typical crank is 2.298" up to the step in the crank. The old Briggs was 2.800. I will give you the belt # you have to get and it should be close since the footprint of the engines are almost the same other than the china boys use a bigger bolt hole and also the elongate their holes which makes it harder to get the crankshaft parallel to the axle but they never do ask for advice when they copy products.

The belt is a Gates HTD, 5mm, length 850mm, width 25mm. Just check out the rear pulley to make sure it isn't broken or teeth missing. They were plastic and like Thumper the rabbits mother use to say "if you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all". Many of our people in Washington have forgotten those words of wisdom. Maybe they should watch Bambi again.
