hey guys im wanting to do a build using my 18hp briggs but I want the shaft facing the back instead of on the side and still want to use a chain driven axle does any body have suggestions on how to make this work? I could probably draw a picture if you guys don't understand what im trying to explain.

Right angle gearbox, but you still need to connect with the final drive.
It is going to be complicated none the less.

Oh, only need to post once, just edit your post if more or less info wanted/required.

That's just making it more complicated.... And as stated, a right angle gear box will let you do this, with some fabrication. And hassle.... And did you know that by adding said gear box actually robs you of hp?? In a car, you lose like 10-17% hp through the drive line..... In the same aspect, that would be like losing 1.8hp of of your 18.... Not cool, just to look cool.... Stick with the way it's normally done, unless you have a reason for doing it that way....

:iagree:
Plus you'll have to find a RAGB that is handling the torque and rpm without falling to pieces, which isn't going to be cheap I assume.
Also the clutch will be expensive, and maybe even difficult to find in the first place.

So although I totally understand the idea of a 18HP vTwin on a kart,
I'd like to at least leave a warning sign... that comes at a price!

Maybe a cardan shaft is easier (even cheaper) to set up than a RAGB and chain;
you could find them on ebay every now and then... taken from a motorcycle
they should take the torque and rpm easily and they're not too expensive.
just an idea...

Guys, I may be wrong here but, he may be going for the look of the V twin from the rear plus allowing for more space.

I suggest you start looking for a stout transaxle (rotate it forward 90°) & either replace the pulley with a sprocket or devise a belt clutch system...

All of the above comments hold true. Suppose you tell us a little bit more about the nature of your project, and we can shoot some more ideas your way.

ok how about a worm gear spinning a nother gear on a shaft with the chain gear?
or is this basically the RAGB?

You know what, I've been thinking & my suggestion would work if you use a shaft from front to back, connected to the transaxle where the pulley attaches. Up front you will need a sprocket attached to the shaft running a chain to the engine shaft, assuming you can find a clutch that can handle the engine...

A torque converter would probably work too but, that could get expensive...

ya I think you are right a transaxle with 5 gears and swap to chain drive.i have found a clutch for it before just gotta find it again.

I like going fast =D and I just think this wagon idea is awesome so I really want to do it. and possibly get a turbo to make up for that horse power I lose from the RAGB

Sorry to ask, but that reads "Cory J.. age 13", right?
because I don't want to make that "wet dream - puberty" joke if it actually is ;)

So let's get things straight, that engine is slow.. and it always will be,
except you start with some mods.
governor removal highflow exhaust and airfilter, things like that.
Until now it's all good fun.
BUT if you talk about supercharging, then there is way more to it, than to add just a charger,
you will need to throw hundreds and hundreds of dollars at it (I think about 8-900 after all)
And that doesn't make any sense at all (you still can get a faster engine for less off a shelf)

So, if you are as I think 13
(don't get me wrong.. great age.. had my first girlfriend at that age, what a thrilling ride...:D)
Just don't think about adding power to an already overpowered kart you haven't even build yet ;)

Great engine, loads of torque, big fun, no matter if you loose 2 or even 3HP somewhere, it'll still hit some interesting speeds ;)

stay safe!
And yes, I sound like an adult, forgive me; I am...
But that really IS IMPORTANT:
stay safe!!
