I just got done building a motorized drift trike and do not have the pvc yet, I tried driving it without the pvc and realized that it does not want to turn. My question is that without the pvc would it make it not want to turn since the rear is locked in possi basically and is gripping to much?

Yeah, that and the way you set up your steering, axle width, and tire width/size.

No matter what, you are going to have steering issues on a trike with a live axle. Even with PVC the front wheel just keeps you pointed in the rightish direction on a drift trike lol.

Just out of curiosity, why don't you tell us your trike's axle with And wheelbase. Also might as well throw in a pick we love pictures.

I'll get some pictures soon, it's set up with a wide stance and the tires are pretty wide also. It's based off an old shifter kart frame.

All the weight is on the rear. If more was towards the front it would steer just fine. But don't change it or else the Drift part won't work when you get pvc. But yes your correct also.

I'm in the process of collecting pats to build two drift trikes. Gotta have a second so you can have a buddy to play with. :)

Half Breeder......Yours is the first I've seen with a torque converter.

I've known for 50yrs that the torque converter will hold up 3 times better than a centrifugal clutch.

So....Are the centrifugal clutch that everyone else runs used as a economy model?

Do you think the torque converter has anything to do with the Wheelies.....Oh is that just a weight balance thing?

New Miller 180 Tig...... Here! :)
New JD Squared 32 Bender on the way with 1 1/4in tube die. :)

I have a Woodward fab manual bender and I love it. The steel follower doesn't wear or break like my buddy's JD2.

That's good to know. :) The JD2 is a much older model. They build the JD3 now and
The JD32 which is much heavier built.

I just bought a set of plans from Holligan. http://hooligandrifttrikes.com/

I'm pretty pleased with them and had and have talked to him via IM on his Facebook page.

I did have a problem with downloading the zip files.... I couldn't unzip them.
Less than 24hrs later he came thru and sent the unzipped files to my email. :)

I thanked him and was pleased.

A live axle kart can only turn by lifting it's inside wheel. No way a trike can do that. With sleeves that thing will rotate about the front wheel (aka turn) like nobody's business. Great looking trike and awesome fabrication.

A trike will turn just fine with the right weight ratios. Mine turned clock to clock every time with a solid axle and kz750 engine.

^ this is true... But when turning sharply or not leaning into a turn the laws of physics do allow inside wheel to lift... A quad would do the same in some scenarios.

Great info. Perhaps a greater rake angle and the right weight distribution will allow turning...?
