Hello Fellow Motorhead's!

I've been wanting to start a Drift Trike for awhile now. So with all my free time these days I decided to go for it.

First step. Find an engine.

I found one on Craigslist but the guy wanted to sell it with a Kart frame. I said yes because the engine was a fairly new Honda gx270 with a brand new torque converter that hasn't even been installed.

The pics are from when I picked it up.

Fixed up the old frame to sell...

I stripped it and sandblasted the frame.

Some paint. It was was the only metallic color I could get on short notice but it turned out good.

New floor pan. I used some checker plate I had kicking around but it could end up being too reflective.

Cleaned, sanded, primed, and painted all the parts.

Re-assembled.

Now to sell that and buy some tubing for the trike frame...

Price

I paid $450 for everything. The restored frame is posted for $550. I've had a few people interested but no one with cash yet.

If I can't sell it for $450 I'll put an engine in it and sell it as complete. It just needs some new bearings in the rear but it should be an easy fix.

Your mini chopper looks pretty sweet by the way!

That's gonna be a handful with that motor! My little gx160 drift trike is already a blast I can't imagine what the 270 will be like!

No, its not a fund raiser, I was forced to buy the frame for the motor I wanted. So while I'm waiting on axle parts I decided to restore the kart frame. If it doesn't sell I'll put an engine in it too. :)

Yeah WunTon, I'm curious to see how it does. I like the look of yours, I'm shooting for something similar.

Fat Bike Tire and Metal Head Tube

Update...
I was looking for a fat tire for the drift trike. They are pretty expensive but then I found a whole bike on Craigslist for $125 CAD.

I removed the front tire at the stem. The whole bike is aluminum and that surpasses my welding ability so I bought a chunk of cold rolled round tube 1026DOM 1.500 x .120 to make my own head tube. See photo with the new head tube. I'll be able to weld to that no problem!

Thats cool... Great start...
Sadly were kinda screwed for stuff like that.. Those bikes being so expensive here...

I was looking into a fat bike tire for my bike, to replace the standard bike tire I currently have..
For one like that with a disc brake hub.. They wanted $300..

Well I have an extra one now. $75 CAD + shipping to wherever you live. But you'll have to add your own disc brake to it. I'm going to a bike shop later today to see what it costs for that.
