My son and his uncle were racing down the street. Gotta love 50 degrees at the end of december in Cleveland

However my son spun in front of him and he had to run up on the curb (over a storm grate). A couple more drifts after that and we found a weak spot. One of the axle hangers broke free. I'm finding some of my earlier welds showing how out of practice I was. I'll clean this up and burn it in correctly and we'll be back to doing donuts :)

I wonder if some angular supports run from the frame to the top of that hangar would help? Especially since this is a drifter and those hangars will see quite a bit of side to side tension.

PS 50 degree end of December weather Here in sunny San Diego too :(

I'm gonna take a look at triangulation for them. Of course, I just got all the keys in there good and now have to remove everything so I can take the bearings out before I weld. BTW, the drum brake does nothing. Haha. Gotta upgrade that to something else.

Unless you want to spend money and do more fabrication, (not that you should or shouldn't) The brake drum/band system will work they are just a finnicky Pain in the neck. There are guys here that can help, I have installed only 1 and still do not have it just right, so I wont give you bad pointers. However the one that came on my other kart works great, so I know they can work

Wait a minute..... It is a drifter with plastic tires! Even if they worked, and locked up the tires, wouldn't you just continue to slide and flat spot the PVC?

It isn't even locking up the axle, a lockup would be better then nothing. I have it set tight against the drum and still nothing. I don't think this lever has enough throw in it. Will either need a new lever or some kind of force multiplier.
