finally brought myself one today

Iv seen them all over the place but could never work out why everyone ranted and raved about how good they were.
Thought it was too small to be useful and cost a small fortune for their size.
Till yesterday when i was trying to cut out a shape in my car door to fit some 6x9 speakers.
Using a 5 inch grinder was making a mess so i went and purchased the biggest one i could, got a good deal as we use the same tool shop though work.

Gotta say, one of the most multi use tools i have.
Managed to install 2 speakers, new head unit, polish out some scratches in my bonnet, polish out scratches in table, clean rust off some window frames, cut up pipe for my retic and a range of other little things.
Saved alot of time, and really love the speedo cable wobbly extension thing makes real ease of fine point jobs.

only questions iv got,
is there differant blades for cutting wood and/or plastic? i was useing an 1 1/2 steel one
can u get big buff/sanding pads

They're brilliant tools, aren't they? I got my first Dremel for my 17th birthday (goes back a coupla years, LOL)

I'm not sure about availability in Aussie- but in North America there are as many Dremel accessories as stars in the sky. Quite ridiculous, really. In addition to the Dremel brand, there are many others, making for a lot of choice. Try maybe searching the phrase "mini die grinder" in addition to Dremel.

The accessories can only get so large though, before it gets risky for the unit's bearings, and let's face it, they only make so much torque. 1 1/2" is probably about as large as you want to go. I don't think I have any cutting or grinding wheels bigger than that.

There are toothed blades available for wood and plastics, as well as your usual assortment of reinforced and non reinforced cutting and grinding wheels for steel, masonry, etc.

Maybe I've gotta get them over the net

Not the best supply here

I guess its like any other die grinder

I know my Cat air powered one doesn't take much to stall out
Although it has tonnes more torque than the Dremel
Just shows the power of air

If yours doesn't already have it, buy a chuck for it. I got tired of the stupid little collets and swapped in a Dremel brand chuck. So much better now that any size tool will fit.

Last time I looked, Bunnings had a huge range of dremel accessories; may be worth a look...

They also have accessories for other brands that should work

Gotta search for one

Bunnings had a large range but it was mostly just every conceivable type of burr, cutting and sanding bit

Maybe masters
