we need it so that if a certain # of people are annoyed by someones post they will get suspended or warned, to a certain degree depending on the #of angry people.

All the ideas are great, but I think what you can do is limited by the options built into VBulliten.

Some one give Blaz power because he is always on here. Tyler and Kap'n are a bit spotty at times.

You've basically appointed yourself as a moderator by telling all these new comers off for their "mistakes". You (as in many of the long term posters, not just redsox) tell newbies who join the forum and ask basic questions to search the forum, then you tell them off for bumping old threads. No wander people don't stick around on this forum anymore, they spend their first 10 posts getting told off by everyone and being b!tched about. There is not a set of rules written anywhere on the forum, it's not fair to tell off every one off for breaking "rules" they don't know exist.

On many other forums I am on thread bumping is encouraged, instead of creating new threads on the same subject all the information on particular threads is usually kept in one thread resulting in one thread with all the information you could want and a much cleaner forum, you can't really blame people coming from those kind of forums to here for bumping threads can you?

I agree a quiz on the forum and it's rules would be the best way to say what's acceptable on this forum, it would also be great at keeping spam out.

What can more moderators do for this issue? It's not like they will just delete these posts, that's not fair to the poster. I'm sure rob will appoint more mods if he sees it necessary.

Man this forum has gone to sh!t since freeman508 came and "Posting and you" was created, certainly not as nice a place as it used to be.

Kart mania: Given the posts you have made it would seem you have searched about changing the size of the engines out put shaft. Are you looking into doing this to your engine?

Thanks

Hayden

I can understand bumping with relevant info but to add two smiley faces and not a single letter on an 18 month old thread, that's just ridiculous. Would your life go on if you kept those two smiley faces to yourself...yes. I'm in favor of searching and building knowledge then coming and posting your own threads with a basic knowledge of the issue at hand. I recall just seeing someone ask the difference between governed and ungoverned motors. That has been answered and detailed hundreds of times. A simple search would turn up multitudes of hits. I, for one, lurked around here for months starting around this time last year, before I became a member about 8 months back IIRC. I didn't know jack about karts or motors cause I live in the suburbs on 1/4 acre of land and my parents both have desk jobs. I am far more mechanically inclined around motors and what not because of what I picked up just reading on here. There is a wealth of knowledge stored within this site.

My original statement regarding the lack of Mods only really pertains to those posts by people who add nothing to a thread. IE: spammers, automated bots, people who add nothing prevalent in efforts to sell products that has absolutely nothing to do with karting.

I think this is still a great community, its not necessary that people take a quiz or be ridiculed on each post they first make as long as it is a sincere mistake. Keep in mind that a great deal of people on the internet who will be attracted to this site are not going to be tech savvy, we have a large number of new users who don't know how to upload pictures or describe their problem much less navigate through a complex process prior to being able to post at all.

We don't need people deleting posts, we need people directing them. A quiz will send the wrong message.

The masses who really are the main karting audience typically do not enjoy tests, if you tell them they need to take a test to enjoy the privilege of posting on an online forum, odds are over half of them would just give up. Honestly, I like tests, but if you were to have that here in place when I was searching around there is a chance I would have felt it was not worth my time.

Basically, the community will lead people in the right direction as long as they can abstain from going on a witch hunt. I have no inclination to be a mod here(given the lack of necessity), I've done it on 3 separate forums over the years and it gets petty after a while.

Understood. Maybe some type of follow up welcome email with basic etiquette included. How many sites require you to follow an emailed link to confirm the account. Just include like a read me style section with basic info pertaining to this site. There is so much activity that sometimes questions can become redundant. I have had stupid questions I can't find answers to on here or on the internet so I've pm'ed blaz enough to fill his inbox twice over but its just stuff that would waste time reading on here. I get the feeling that many of us read every new post each time they log in.

On a side note and to expand further. When my interest in karts spiked about a year ago, I couldn't have told you what a jackshaft was or the difference between chains. I didn't know about governors or steering geometry. I had no idea what a centrifugal clutch or torque converter was. Comet? Like Haley's Comet? I didn't know how to begin cleaning a carb...once I figured out what it was, where it was, what it did, and how it worked. I was clueless but by doing research and often doing more go.kart homework than real homework, I feel I have become pretty decent with the basics.
