Dongfang dune buggy

Hi all, I just picked up a dune buggy and was wondering what you all could tell me about it. I had some trouble last weekend, it flooded and I killed the battery. After messing with it for a hour I got it running, ran it hard and it seems ok. I love the size and the ride. What can I expect and or do to make this run well. The guy didn't run ethanol free gas in it, bit it was 93 octane. He owned it 2 years but rarely drove it. It had 9 miles on it when I bought it, after last weekend it has 24. What can I expect repair wise for this unit?

You will probably learn more from a Google search about this particular buggie.... It looks like you have a typical pile of crap Chinese buggie..

Flooded engine??? This only happened once?? If so keep driving it I've flooded lots of engine's...

Did you turn the gas off from the gas tank when you parked it that to will flood an engine too, if it doesn't have a gas line on and off I recommend you install one.... Also check the spark plugs they could be dirty and need to be cleaned (I highly doubt it on a engine that new) but Chinese buggie could have some really crappy spark plugs on there....

Also did you replace the old gas?? (only 9 miles on it I expect it to be the same gas from day one) 1-2 year old gas dose not burn well which could cause an engine to flood...

Mtn sledder... The guy said it was filled in May. The more I drive it though the better it seems. Starts good now but when I'm just off idle it stumbles. Wot runs really good lol. I'll check the plug. I was hoping for any insight on that minuki carb. I am a mechanic, and have success with the typical Briggs and Stratton carb, but this is new to me. Thanks for the help

Okay gas is good...

Check the plug it could be a real cheap plug that need to be thrown out and replaced...

If plugs OK It could also be a dirty carb, a minuki carburetor pretty easy to clean just start taking stuff apart and clean it with carburetor cleaner ect, and reassemble IDK.. I'm just playing a guessing game here

If that is a 150cc then it has the typical GY6 engine. I have too much experience with those engines. They are jetted massively lean from the factory and the fuel adjustment screw is also set too lean. To make matters worse it is usually capped off. Drill out the cap and turn it 2.5 turns out from seated and see how it runs. Also, the valve lash can be fickle with those motors. Make sure the intake is set to .004 and the exhaust to .005. Another thing I have found is that the weights in the variator (front pulley in the transmission) are generally too heavy. Look into a set of 10 gram slider weights for it. www.scrappydogscooters.com has them cheap. When you have it apart apply some dry lube to the glide bushings in the front pulley as they wear quickly otherwise. All said, I love those motors and wouldn't mind having a cart that had one.
