as quite a few people have asked about using generator engines on a gokart, if i made some tapered adapters on a lathe to either 3/4" or 1" do you think i could sell them, helping quite a few people out?

i'm sure someone people would like having the option. only problems i can think of are:
the engine shafts may differ greatly, some shafts might just be too big.
aren't generator shafts made for torsional loads? maybe if the clutch was mounted inboard?

if you do make them i would sell them on ebay..

The easy way around it is to find a pulley with the right inside diameter and cut a key way into the shaft.

Alternatively you can machine a taper into the pulley and bolt it on.

My Victa has a pulley mounted using the second method, seems to work well. Puley tensioner clutch of course. You could run a pulley to a jack shaft and put a centrifugal clutch on it but IMO pulley tensioner is 100x better.

The hard bit as accurately measuring the taper, tapers are usually a standardized size and if your lucky the specs can be found online.

r97, they don't vary as much as you would think. Just my 2c.

r_chez_08, have you priced the taps that you will need? Not worth it IMO.

Thanks

Hayden

Make one, test the wee out of it. Good? Make a couple more, hand 'em out for beta testing in exchange for reports. Still good? Make a whack of 'em and sell them on EvilBay.

Hi,
Thanks for the replys. I do not have a generator engine myself so I could not test.
I will look into the taper more.
