I am starting my first karting project at 14, and just found out the frame, the one I rode during my childhood, I was looking has been sold, and sold again; but I'll make another thread for that. More disappointingly it seems as if there are no torque converters that can handle 8+ hp on the market, and certainly not the 9hp Briggs I have souped up to around 11.5. So tell me GoKart community, how will I ever get more out of this engine than the limits of a 1 gear ratio system provides. Before you tell me to just stap on a c. cluth, let me tell you this is not good enough for me, and I am not giving up.

Are there any TC's still in production that don't suck? If you recommend a comet 40 or 500, tell me where to get one! what other options do I have for a gear box/ tranny. I can fabricate most anything.

Thanks in advance!

You need a Comet 40 or equivalent, which I'm sure you already knew. I'm struggling to remember where, but a go kart supplier is selling a genuine driver and a knockoff driven (or was it the other way around?). Give us some time. Someone will chime in as to which supplier it is.

Check with Northern Tool, MFG Supply, BMI karts and Ebay. Has anyone tried to place a special order directly from the Hoffco division of CPC? CVTech also makes good products from what I've heard.

I bought a 40 series Driver from BMI back in the fall. I recall he had several at that time and it was around $160 (from my memory, don't hold me to it). As for the Driven unit, I scored one off e-bay, but they are not in ready supply so just keep searching. This site ---> gokartsusa.com has replacement comet TC's. I do not know the quality since I have not purchased anything from them. They didn't have any in stock until about a week after I bought mine from BMI and e-bay. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I could sell you a new genuine comet one for $350 ish including postage if you wanted it, as i have one but would rather a 30 series tav2 for simplicity.

Yeah its a 40 series i bought in the uk and turns out a comet 30 will suit me better cos it is easier to set up and has the correct shaft size for me.
What i was suggesting to do is buy a tav2 in the uk, which is about £160, then ship the 40 series to you, which is about £55. That comes to about £215, or $350ish.
I dunno if that is good for you?

say's they are 30 series.....he need 40 series for 8+ h.p.

!0-4 to that, thanks for the correction. I just posted that link to help all the others that will be google-searching the net for a Genuine Comet 30-series and run across the title of the op's thread here.

The info found in our threads here can end up helping out a lot more folks besides just the OP's...

Lol i'm sorry but are you serious? There's comet 40 series all over the internet, and they are rated for 8-18hp: 1" crankshaft diameter. i have a 40 series on my 11 hp briggs. They're A little pricey but it's worth it.

I bought mine about 2 months ago from gokartsupply.com

Well good for you BS, I think your pretty dam sorry too... But If you'd actually tried to order from some of those other sites still listing 1" bore converters, you'd probably find that most were actually out of stock or covertly substituting copies/clones.

If you 2 noobs had been around here longer, you would have seen all the threads from guys that had struck out trying to find the genuine comet converter models they wanted.

Maybe Comet's manufacturing the 40-series again now, heck I dont know, but dont freakin "Lol" me for just trying to be helpful... :censored:-you!!!
