Do It Yourself - Shielded Metal Arc Welding

I should have taken lots of photo's but im going to try document my welder build here.

1. find a broken microwave oven rated over 1200watts
2. salvage the transformer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4kYgfJyA-E)
3. rewire the transformer to output just enough voltage to keep an arc (15v) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejqR6CIzZRU)

picture coming soon

i have rewired my transformer 4 times with different gauge wire and produced different results. i have also purchased some switches and chase for my welder. i should have a weld video soon

if anyone wants to ask questions about building a SMAWelder please feel free to ask.

OK, this is a full on safety rant!!!!!

While there are many myriad ways to build a welding power supply, I have yet to see anything on line that doesn't seem to gloss over the really dangerous parts, just to get to the "I am awesome!!! You must now worship me!!!!" parts.

This is electrical safety. Do it right, you might have some fun. Do it wrong, your family is going to have a bad rest of their lives.

Anything that starts out with "Find a discarded Microwave Transformer" is an automatic red flag for me. If you think that statement was a joke, guess again.

If it can cook your food in its intended application, remove all the safety equipment, and you are playing with your life. You dfirst..........:censored: with the power levels these things generate.

Safety first
