I'm kind of new here so please help me.
So this is the deal, I'm now on my second Go kart, and I wanted to make this a little more professional than the other. My fist Go kart was just made by scrap, and things I had lying around.
So what I have been thinking about is to make a Go kart that can have torque and speed. I know that I could just buy a torque converter, but I don't have the money, and beside. Its fun to make thinks on your own.
My plan is to use a centrifugal clutch and a second gear ration.
What I then have thought about is to have two gears. I want to make a low-speed gear, and a high-speed gear.
So the question is how can I do this?
I know how lawn mower gear-boxes work, so my first thought was that I could use something like that, but then I had to get the engine to go backwards or have en engine with vertical axle.
(If I wanted to use a lawn mower gearbox)
I then thought of something like a chain clutch. For example, if you could have a sprocket with a one way clutch on the back, and a second sprocket with a lover gear on the same axle. You could then just use the low speed like normal, but you could then switch over to high speed. I could then use a chain sort of clutch mechanism to engage the high speed?
Soooo, is this plausible, or do any of you have any other good ideas??
