Not to rain on your campfire, but it has an inherent flaw... That'll be hell on the shaft and bearings. Guaranteed fail, just a matter of time.

To fix the flaw- extend it further still, and support the very outer end of the shaft with a bearing, solidly mounted to the same surface that the engine is mounted to.

It might be just me, But did you weld the sprocket on the nuts while attached to the block?

If so im curious where you put the ground?

Ya im thinking he just arc'ed his crank and every journal in the motor, not to mention the gears will take a good blast. Im hoping he didnt for his sake, but just saying...

Oh ya if it had a starter, the magnets might be shot, but over all id think they would be mostly fine, just all the moving parts.

Very true. We are taught (and rightly so) not to let the current pass through moving parts, as moving parts generally have a wee bit of clearance between them, causing a potential for them to arc-weld themselves in place.

(Similarly)Ive seen it with the bearings of large motors, when a winding slot failure grounded to the rotor(AC) and welded the bearings solid. Caused a locked rotor, and a big fiery meltdown, fortunately the thermals eventually kicked in and shut off the power as to not let the fire spread to the surrounding building.
