Hi,
Okay i had this idea that a chop saw is esentially like a bench mounted angle grinder, so do you guys think it would be feesable to make a mount that bolts on to a bench to make a 9" grinder into a chop saw? And then have a vise like a drill press one that you can change angles on?

It would probably take a lot of engineering to make a swinging mount for it that will hold it firmly enough to cut true angles and yet pivot for the "chop". Dunno if it's worth it.

9"? I don't think I've even seen a 9" angle grinder.

I wouldn't try to retrofit one. Remember those photos of the guy who was using some crazy combo of wheels and grinders? Chop saws have more guards and safety mechanisms on them.

9" is a large beast of a grinder toystory!

We just bought a chop saw, and removed most of the safety gear, haha.

chop saw's are not too steep?

One thing to modify / make if you do end up buying a chop saw, is behind the cut off wheel there is a deflector plate (often adjustable) , you take that off and make a 90 degree scoop looking device that takes the sparks down into a container, we use a 20 litre metal paint tin for ours, the scoop looks neat and does a great job at keeping the workshop clean, also if you have small off cuts you just slide them down the scoop, quick as!

Yeah, 9" :) it's quite a beast. My dad ha only just allowed me to use it, cos he doesn't want me cutting off my arm.
We have a 4" and a 4.5" too.
I will have a look at it to see if there is any way to secure it well. I would ideally want it so it is easily removable. Maybe I should just ask for one for my birthday :).

Yeah it is a bit, but it takes half the time. I can see two mounting points on the grinder, the two 12mm? Threaded holes for the handle to be in a different position.
