yup, harbor freight. gets the job done, but does require some muscle and a whole lot of double/triple checking to make sure you got your angles right. quite often you have to bend to 50 degrees, when you want 45. but it's never the same twice. sometimes 47, sometimes 51... lol. be sure to pack your pipe/tube with sand (with duct tape on the ends), so your pipe doesn't crimp too much.

Thanks for the reply. I see one for sale on CL for $50 i might make him an offer.

So... getting back to work on the buggy. Kicking the end stages of a nasty cold (lungs are not my friends right now, but I'm getting my energy back).

I've started piecing together the drive assembly. Picked up a handful of sprockets, and had the sled's jackshaft turned down a bit by my machinist to accomodate a 10 tooth sprocket. The ratio will be 10 to 24 (sled jackshaft to new jackshaft), then 12 to 23 (new jackshaft to axle). the reverse gear box has a 19 to 39 ratio in it. final ratio = about 9.2:1, which at 7000 rpms will get us about 57 mph with 25 inch tires. sounds good to me! :)

started with a throat thing about a month and a half ago, which i got on antibiotics for. then turned into a full blown cold. just when i thought i was starting to get better, the lung infections kicked in. i didn't want to go on another round of antibiotics, so i'm riding it out to see what happens. seems like it's toying with me, making me think i'm getting better, and then i wake up hacking stuff up and all snotty and weak/tired again. lol.

on kid duty till sunday evening, then hopefully i'll have some progress pics. :)

Welcome to the swine flu. ....if you don't wind up bedridden. ...consider yourself lucky.

Edit: That round of antibiotics has probably kept you from feeling the full effect of the H1N1 virus.

got some work done on the drive assembly today.

cut my axle to length, sprockets welded to the weld-a-hubs, bearing mount plates bored and holes drilled. "new" jackshaft clamped in place, and chain cut to length for that. bored out splines on quad hubs to accomodate axle diameter, and dremmeled out hub mount holes on rims because one manufacturers idea of 156x4 bolt pattern is apparently different than another manufacturers 156x4 bolt pattern (off by like 2mm).

jackshaft positioned and holes drilled, rear axle tacked in place (going to move it forward a 1/4" to get the slack out of the chain).

dimples drilled into the axle where the bearings are, so that the grub screws on the bearings will hold the axle in place. have found out the hard way that just tightening the grub screws (without nice deep dimples) isn't good enough to keep the axle from sliding left and right.

Poboy, i dont care to see your negative comments anymore. Please keep them to yourself, or i will ask the moderators to block you. This entire buggy building experience has been frustrating enough, and i would like to continue posting updates without your negative crap. Thanks.

Mystery boy, as long as poboy stays in line and doesn't go overboard then I see no reason as to why the moderators would comply with your request. Especially as he does have one or two valid points.

The guy is flat out being a jerk. I posted an update and he went off on me. It is not his buggy, and he does not fully understand nor care what my circumstances are. I will continue to post updates if people can keep their negative comments to themselves. My buggy business failed. Plain and simple. I fully intend to finish and deliver the buggy, but because the business failed and i am involved in other work to support my family, the buggy is taking a while to complete. Negative crap does not help or speed things up. It just creates unnecessary tension.

Thought about it, and I think I'm just gonna bow out of posting on DIYgokarts. It doesn't benefit anyone enough to justify the negative stress it causes. Good luck everyone. :)

I for one would still like to see the progress on the buggy if you are willing to post

And poboy....we really don't need your negative posting. Please keep it in check

I've never posted anything on your builds before but i have been watching for quite awhile. I think it would be a shame not to watch your last buggy come together. Good luck and if you dont post updates at least give us some finished photos/videos.

I find it interesting that everyone is bagging on Poboy for his negative posts, but forgets that not that long ago, Mysteryboy was popping into everyone's threads being a giant arrogant douchebag.

I understand why it's hard to finish that buggy,
work and money will have to be put in,
and there is no credit to gain nor appreciation.
And I do agree that Doug's post doesn't make it easier for you to post the progress.

But I think you still SHOULD post progress,
for us to see you are trying to get out of that dilemma.
I'm sorry but you caused it in the first place and being a grown man, I think you can deal with it, if someone is telling you to keep focused.

We haven't heard of Billy in a while, but nonetheless we do want to know, that he finally get's his buggy.
It took you longer than expected(again) and that's not exactly a good thing;
still it's much better to see the buggy finished late than to not to see it finished at all...

think about it, you're out of buggy business alright,
but anyone can find out who you are with ease,
and leaving a bad taste of a ripped of customer in a permanent forum like this is NEVER a good thing,
no matter what job you have or want.

Try your best to finish the buggy
and built in in the very same quality you'd built it when you started that business, that's all we can and will ask for.

You can still loose credibility no matter what business you're in
if you mess it up.

So again, ignore whatever / whoever you want,
(just click this link: Ignorelist)

but keep posting progress and let us see how Billy sits in the finished buggy as soon as you can.
