spent tonight sorting out the gear box. the guy i bought the sled parts from delivered everything in a million pieces. so since i didn't take it apart - i was clueless how it all went back together. lol. i think i've got it figured out though, using the 2 jackshafts as guides to hold the gears in place i figured out what went where, and even got the mechanics of it working so that when i shifted the forward/reverse gear lever - the chain started going in the opposite direction. yay! i will be consulting an actual parts diagram to be absolutely sure. the diagrams usually show you where things go. there were a few washers that seemed like they could have gone in a couple of different spots, and a large spring that rested on a rubber seal that seemed like it should have a stronger base than just rubber.
drilled the last 4 holes to mount the engine mount to the frame, adding more support near the jackshaft and engine areas.
also got the fuel tank mounting bars mostly welded on. once things are mostly done on the buggy i will be flipping it on it's side and doing any welding i couldn't easily get to when it was upright. not really fun to have welding sparks land all over you while you climb under the buggy. i've had a few sparks actually land inside my ear canals, sizzling and causing some pain. yeah, that can't be good. lol.
kids and cold weather this weekend, so work will commence on monday when it's suppost to get up to around 40 degrees.
