I found a pair of Jesse James fabricating pants at Walmart some time ago, they're a heavy canvas type material and the best to weld in, that being said, you can usually catch me welding in board shorts since I have to jump in the pool every 30 min or so, my welding instructor would **** if he saw me

had Mike, the owner of the buggy i'm building, out, along with his friend Jeremy. got quite a bit of work done. thanks guys! waiting for him to post a video of them riding my demo buggy out on the golf course...

in the end stages of the buggy now. some final welding, couple more sheet metal panels to cut and weld on, and some odds and ends - then it'll be ready for a test drive! then it'll be time to strip it down, do a final polish grinding - and then paint!

6 continuous hours of grinding, with a little bit of welding thrown in. yay. lol. tomorrow i pick up the tire from the tire shop (fixing a slow leak), and slap the rear end back together, then drop in the motor. hook up the throttle cable, then hopefully get to take it for a spin on tuesday with no brakes. lol. brake hoses on the way...

went to pick up the tire from Belle Tire, and they had it sitting in 2 pieces (rim and tire). said they just couldn't get it to hold air. told me i could go buy an inner tube at tractor supply or something, and they'd be happy to throw it on for me. went and bought a tube, came back and a different guy tells me "we don't service ATV tires". i said "the other guy just told me to go buy an inner tube and bring it back here", and he repeats "we don't service ATV tires". so again i tried to explain that they haven't had a problem before, and that i was just told like 20 minutes ago to go buy a tire and come back. he slides me a business card, with "Ryan" something or other, manager of Belle Tire on it. i ask "are you Ryan?", and he nods his head yes and again says "we don't service ATV tires. you can take it to an ATV repair shop. i'd be happy to help you carry it out to your vehicle for you." so i'm like "ok..." what a jerk! lol.

meanwhile, managed to snap a couple pics of tonight's progress before the camera died on me. sheet metal is almost done, just have to trim a bit, then make the roof and hood.

note: the sheet metal body panels were a personal request from my current customer, and will eventually be standard on my buggies once the price goes up a couple of notches.

will be glad to use all aluminum if people will be glad to pay $10,000. :) it costs 4 times as much as steel at the scrap yard.

panels and flooring are bolted with self-tapping heavy-duty screws. floor will have LOTS of them. :)

aluminum is $1.75 per pound at the scrap yard, steel is 40 cents. that's for the used/leftover/B-grade stuff

finished bolting the floor on, then duked it out with the gearbox for a couple of hours trying to get the forward/reverse assembly to pop back in place. when i took it off the sled something had popped out and didn't want to go back. fixed that, mounted the CV axles, wheels, shocks, and rack n pinion. then welded the drive sprocket onto the jackshaft.

time to take the kids to school, then come home and crash.

sure am! no worries though, the screws are a hair bigger than 1/8", and i'm drilling into 1 1/4" tubing with 1/8" thick wall. it's heavy duty stuff! the rest of the buggy is 1/16" wall tubing.
