Hey guys, I picked up an old AMF Harley on road / off road dirt bike for cheap.. The bike had been sitting outside for some time and the engine, electronice, and tires are a wreck.. I was able to save the frame, rims, and the drum brakes.. But my question is what do you guys think of these 125cc Lifan engines on Ebay? Do they have good low end power? How easy is it to get parts for them? The original bike had a 250 or 350cc engine, but I can't afford one of those for this project.. I am not looking to race or jump it, I just want enough power to ride around some of the trails back in my woods, but I don't want to burn up an engine that is too small.. Thanks

I would check reveiws on the internet, they seem to be decent but i have never used one before. The package deal that comes with them has everything i belive except for an exhaust (on ebay) So you would have to fab your own by making a flange then bending or angeling one to fit it the corrrect spot on the bike. You may want some kind of muffeler/spark arrestor to be in the woods.

Think maybe you could find a different bike locally? If that bike originally had 250-350cc I would try to get one.

I think one of the buildoff entrants is planning to use one of those 110cc. If your in no hurry, you could wait till its finished and ask how well it goes....

Glad to see your back!

I read a lot of reviews and watched videos of on youtube.. The engine seems strong and well built but my question was more along the lines of is it big enough to move this bike around or will I burn it up.. I looked into the options of getting a bigger bike engine locally but they are way over priced around here

With the right gearing, Id be willing to bet that motor could move a tank... very slowly.
I guess it depends on how fast you want to go.

The hp is said to be around 8-9 and you have a 4 speed gear box. So unless you or the bike is really heavy, or it is geared really steeply you should be fine.

a few years back i bought a brand new Chinese pit bike with a lifan to ride around between races pit riding is not fast(normally tracks wont allow you to ride out of 2nd gear) the thing fell apart after about two months the engine also just wouldn't start
Now it wasn't the same engine but after that my dad wont let me buy any Chinese parts haha In my opinion just stay away from the 110cc clone engines they seem to be the least reliable
