Dingo's up and running

Well, I've got my Dingo 388 all put together now. Engine is done. She runs like a Raped Ape. Top speed is 40 MPH. As long as you've go a smooth spot to run. It has a Honda GX390 with a billet rod, flywheel w/starter ring gear, Ported/ polished and shaved .100" Racing head from nrracing, and a Mikuni 34mm flat slide carb. and electric start. Some other small goodies. I also rebuilt the torque converter assemble to match the Honda engine. Big block motor mount plate installed. Also installed disc brakes. Had to weld a new throttle cable mount by the gas pedal to match the Mikuni cable.
This carburetor is soo responsive. I love it. Now if i can manage to not hurt myself on it. At 62 I should be careful.

Love it, at 62 you you know what hurts...lol...it slows you down some....some....my friends are like why the minibikes? You'll get hurt....they all still ride motorcycles on the road

Brand new out of the box mine ran 42mph all day with the 8hp flat head Briggs! No engine mods at all.

This is one of the best Dingo resto-mods I have seen, so clean, and especially love the refurbed gold wheels.

Gold wheels were a thing in the 80's early 90's and cars, motorcycles, the exalted Honda Odyssey and go karts had them. Glad to see it instead of basic black.

Thanks Hellion. I actually acquired the front wheels on an old minibike frame I bought for $100. I sandblasted the front and rear wheels and painted them with some gold paint supposedly made for wheels. Hey Denny, when I hit 40 mph my engine started acting like it was not getting any fuel. I'm using gravity feed but was wondering if a fuel pump would help. This thing is capable of a lot more than 40, I like to think. Also only hitting 4500 RPM's. I should be able to do 6500 with this setup.

Try it, but you may have to regulate the pressure by using a bypass line and adjustable valve.

Thank you. I took it out to a friends house Saturday. We all had a blast. Only issue was the keyway fell out of the brake disc so we had no brakes at the end of the day. Small fix. 2.6 hours on the motor now. I think it's time for an oil change.
Yea, I'm going to look into the carb issue. Overall, she runs great.

Hey Master Hack, sorry I missed your question. I have a 280 cam from nrracing. It's the 0411 Tq Grind. Meant for torque. Also have a head from them. It's a small port head that is supposed to be better for torque. I didn't jet the carb at first. It ran fine. I've changed the jets once. It's idling much better now but I think I still need to fine tune the main jet. I really love the flat slide Mikuni carburetor. It's so responsive.

Interesting. I’ve ordered a lot of the same stuff from NR also. Only I got the flat top piston and 308-411 cam and big port head. Should be interesting to see how she runs. (Still waiting on the big brown truck to show up)
l had the same fueling issues. (Starving at WOT 34 mm carb) it was gravity feed with only about 8 inch drop from a fuel cell. I added a 3 psi fuel pump and that solved that problem. That was before the engine mods. l have a 38 mm flat slide carb also, i’m comsidering trying that.

I was wondering about your gear ratio, and thought you MIGHT be getting into " gear bind".

Thats when you have so much gear, it's actually working against you on the high side of the t/c.

A stock gx390 makes 19+ ft/lbs of torque. With a t/c and that big sprocket, you SHOULD be able to pull a train down low.

I see you have 22" tires, but also see enough gear to pull a 350# driver.

Hey Brownstainracing, Thanks for the kind comments. The sprockets and tires are from stock sizes from the 8 hp Briggs that the Dingo came with. I think I'm going to try a pulse fuel pump and see if that makes any difference.

Not trying to be too basic but, Did you see this on NRs website?
Note: UT2s series Hondas (2012 & up) or later have a built in Rev Limiter in the coil and will require a new coil to exceed 4000 rpm. The UT2 coils (4 wire) can only be used with stock flywheels. If using a Billet Flywheel, you must run a UT1 style coil (single wire).

Actually this engine was a did have a 4 wire coil. I replaced it with a hew stock Honda coil. Good idea though. I'm hitting 5K on the RPM's now. I did some jetting. Here's a question. Mt throttle response is great but if you stomp on the throttle from a stand still, it won't will bog down. I hadn't gotten that bold yet. A friend drove it and we found out. Any ideas?

Sounds like a lean condition. In the hot rod days increasing the accelerator pump shot would fix that. Not sure on a mik. Needle taper? Idle jet?

I'm thinking about advancing the timing. I might try 6 degrees. I'm curious what that would do.
