I searched at three hardware stores and two auto parts stores for a replacement plug. I could match the thread (metric 12-1.5) but everything was a cap-style. If there were a set screw with this thread...

This engine has an oil drain plug on the front and back. I just cut down the front one so it could sit on the jackshaft plate against the tube. If I absolutely had to get the trimmed plug out, it might be tough, but not impossible.

My solution, while inelegant, seems functional in this case.

For a set screw type plug, you'd probably have to see a bolt specialist or engineering supplies...

Another way to do it is to cut down a bolt & file the shaft square

I was all racy to drill my stock mounting plate last night and figured I had better simply set the Predator on the plate in the off chance it fit. Not only did it fit the plate, it looks like the T/C pulley distance will be the same as for the stock Brigs, about 7 3/4 inches. In short, it looks like a direct replacement. I'm not 100%a sure yet, because the oil drain plug interfered with exact placement on the mounting plate (hits the jackshaft tube). If I swap the plug for a flush mount, it should be GTG.

You are probably further along than me anyway, but if you weren't, I figured I would share as it is responsive to your original post.

I used 3 washers in the rear to raise the motor slightly and it doesn't hit the plug.

I got 7.5" on mine.. and 7 3/4" on the homebuilt.
