Dingo n 8Hp Predator

Well guys I got my self a dingo 285 and a home built. I just picked up 2-8hp predators and plan on ordering everything i need in the next day or 2 to get them both moving again.

I do have the 40 series comet on both and am wondering if there is a way to verify what belt i need to order prior to mounting the engine.. Has anyone done this to verify length etc?

Was a screaming deal on the pair.. almost a buy one get one..

That red kart definitely doesn't look home built, it almost looks like a dingo...

I could be wrong but, in order to determine what belt you need, you need to measure from the engine PTO shaft to the jackshaft; without the engine in place, wouldn't that be impossible?

The guy i bought them from said he bought them years ago from a farmer who said he built it after buying a dingo.. The red one is easily twice the weight and way more sturdy.

I don't have the engines yet to even attempt to guesstimate. I think the drive pulley has to be on the engine and mounted to get a good measurement. Again i am learning so..

when you say 2 8 hp predators, are you talking 212cc?

212CC predators have a 3/4" shaft that needs a 30 series torque converter. A 40 series torque converter needs a 1" shaft.

I put a 13 hp engine on my little manco and it just barely fits on the kart.

If you go with a bigger block engine, you will also have to modify/reinforce engine mount. I hope that clears some confusion up, unless you already knew about the engine shaft sizes.

Ive got a early 90s Manco Dingo With a genuine Honda GX390 bolted to the back and it is brilliant!

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I have a Dingo 388-05 (I think) that has a blown Briggs, but a good (fingers crossed) Comet 40 series TC. I was going to repower with the 212 Predator, but that 1 inch PTO shaft on the TC made me go with the 301 Predator.

Picked it up last night at HF for $199. Unfortunately it seems to be the new kid on the block and few references available online. I imagine I will potentially need a new drive belt for the TC, unless I can mount it the same as the old Briggs.. Plus I have no idea how I will rig the throttle control.

Also, it is listed at 106 dB, which is greater than I would like. Any ideas on what might work to quiet it down.

I should add for those that are curious about buying one of these- The manual has a warning not to install this on a vehicle. Are they just doing a typical CYA, or are there issues I should be aware of?

It has a throttle linkage setup on the motor stock.

My Dingo is the 388 model that came with a 8hp briggs, that was wrecked when i got it but ive put a GX390 on mine as you see in the pics above and thats quiet but if you don't want something as big as that even though i recommend the GX390 because its a beast and is great fun you could go for a GX200, GX270, GX340 or any of the clones, however ive been looking into the predators and the look very good but personally im a genuine Honda guy even though they are expensive but i think they are the best.

Exactly.. 1" shaft n all.. it'll work. The guys over at OMB.com helped me get this far, i found these forums and saw it was kart based..

I got the motors coming on there way and am just ttrying to get all the parts in transit n piece them together this weekend.

Just trying to figure out the drive belt length ill need.. the red one has an adjustable jack shaft with 5" of travel, it bolts down tight so i can guess that one close enough.

That's a standard disclaimer so you can't sue them if/when you get hurt...

So.. i ended up ordering $300 worth of gear for both karts between here and there..

ill post my exact center measurements for the next individual..

Actually. .....it does. .....if those engines come with low oil sensors. ....you may need to disable them.....or re-start after every turn...... (hence. ...."do not use on moving vehicles. .....)

I was all racy to drill my stock mounting plate last night and figured I had better simply set the Predator on the plate in the off chance it fit. Not only did it fit the plate, it looks like the T/C pulley distance will be the same as for the stock Brigs, about 7 3/4 inches. In short, it looks like a direct replacement. I'm not 100%a sure yet, because the oil drain plug interfered with exact placement on the mounting plate (hits the jackshaft tube). If I swap the plug for a flush mount, it should be GTG.

You are probably further along than me anyway, but if you weren't, I figured I would share as it is responsive to your original post.

I ordered 4 belts to make sure i cover my bases and if the measurements you gave me are close i think i got it handled!

Motors and tires and all the goodies come today,thanks for the info. Ill add on to it with what i find out..

A sawzall sounds like a little much lol, I was going to say you could use a bench ginder and grind the plug down the use a dremel to put a slot in it for a straight blade screw driver so you could still loosen and tighten it.

Say what? ??? How are you going to change oil.....you could have gotten a flush plug for $1 or 2.....at the hardware store. ....
