I have a Apollo air cooled Diesel CF186F(E) 418cc and want to build a off road desert cart. Is this a good, bad, stupid idea?:roflol:

Tapered shaft. Long road ahead.

Yep, first step is to tear down the engine and take the crankshaft to a machine shop and have it turned and a keyway cut.

I'm guessing it's from a generator, so probably a fixed throttle. Gotta work around that too.

Unfortunately not a lot of people here are running diesel, so mechanical advice will be slim as far as the engine is concerned.

Besides that, find a rolling frame on Craigslist, buy a clutch, throw some fat tires on it, and stick it all together.

My 5 HP briggs engine had the same problem. I took it to a guy with the lethe machine and he made the pulley boring perfectly. Then i had a jackshaft which had a 10 inch pulley and a 15 tooth sprocket which linked to the axle by a chain.
The pulley was attached to the engine shaft by a bolt in it.
Also, my engine did not have a keyway.

Thats what you can do now.
