How would I keep the wheel on the axle?

And where could I find high speed bearings?

Here's some pictures! I've been really slowly working on it every day. There's still a decent amount of things to do...

Front Iso: Note the blocks on the foot rests. These are because I decided I wanted to sit a little further back... mostly due to the innacurate construction of the steering! Also, you can see the steering dowel and that ring which is to go around the dowel for more responsive steering.

Do you have some sort of washer between your main beam and your front steering axle?

Some sort of plastic will work better then metal washers. And the larger diameter, the better.

If you have a 1 1/2 or 2 inch hole saw, you could saw out a few washers from something like a plastic trash can. You want some sort of hard slippery plastic for this.

If you put two of them in there, they can ride and slip on each other and the steering will be much better.

I do have washers... and they are wobbly. Maybe I should try and cut out some plastic! Excelent idea!

and I made a little progress this weekend. The steering is completely functional. I just have to mount the axles and wheels, and make the brakes...

And I still need to find a seat and steering wheel

Go to your local agricultural shop, they normally stock all kinds of bearings, if they don't have them in stock they can order them in. Remember to take the bearings in with you.

I sell a good high speed bearing that we use on our down hill cars. Several of our cars are running HF wheels with these bearings and better tires.

If you need the 5/8I.D. x 1 3/8O.D. x7/16 width high speed bearing with flange, the part number is 8205 and the list price is $2.15ea.

With that set up, we are getting into the upper 50mph range with our cars.
