How are you gonna put your steering arms in the double a arm outer pivot line?

How are you gonna put your steering arms in the double a arm outer pivot line and still have ackermann? Does it work out right or is it just deceiving pictures?

Yea they are Equal length arms.Not as good but I don't have the fabrication skills or equipment to build unequal length arms at least not for the spindles.And not to mention I already had some pretty complex math to do the front end I have now.I'm only midway through Algebra 1 which doesn't help.
For the Ackerman steering I will mount the steering arms at an angle or just bend them so they have a curve angled towards the frame.But is Ackerman geometry is even necessary for an offroad only vehicle?

Nothing to be ashamed of. I just scapped by on A1, due to a crap teacher, but most of these equations should be doable. And the others, people on here can always help you with... 'Cause some of the formulas, such as that in Trig, cannot be done without a book of tangents..(I had to do a bunch of Trig in 8th grade for a project... it was fun... not..)
I believe the Ackarman principle is that the top piece of the arm must be shorter than the bottom, as so one is set back approximately 15o from the other...

Wow, now I'm totally lost. This is too confusing for me. I'm heading into Algebra 2 next year (God help me) and I don't think I'll be able to do this even then. Do you have your pop helping you with the math? And I'm using .090 for mine and it's pretty light, and plenty strong.
I'm figuring out all the math,measurements,and designs but it is a father son project.My dad does the cuts and I do the welding.
Algebra 1 to me is not that hard it's just way to much work required between chapters.I'm only midway done with algebra 1.I have an A in it but I'll still be in algebra 1 my senior year which I start this August.

D amn, that's impressive. I had Algebra 1 freshman year, and skated by with a D. I'm starting Junior year in August, and I'm gettin' Algebra 2. I had Geometry this year and it was easy enough, but like you said, there's too much work. Why're you gonna be in it for 2 years?

What i'm saying is, how are you gonna put the steering arm on the kingpin and in line with the double a arm pivot points without going beyond the ackermann angle? from here it looks like you might have to redrill the spindle bolt holes to make it closer. pictures can be deceiving though. Do you understand?
I assume you mean lowering the spindle c-bracket till its in line with the lower arm right?
I was thinking about doing that but the tie rod would have to be mounted in a way that it will hit the frame.
My current idea is to do a Pitman style steering but have the Pitman arm be in the shape of a upside down T.And have the tie rods mount on the Pitman arm at the same arc as the spindle arm.So there will hopefully be no bumpsteer.Which might work.
There should be no bump steer but there will be a decent amount if the suspension compresses while turning.And the angle on the T arm when steering may also not work.If it does not work than i could buy a mini rack and pinion.If anyone has a better idea I'm open to it.
As for ackerman steering.After researching sites like minibuggy.net and this site http://www.rorty-design.com/content/Ed_McCannick.htm#Ackermann i don't believe i will implement it because this buggy will only see street when it's being loaded on the trailer.

Not having ackerman still makes it turn real sheite. I mean it will still work alright but not nearly as good as it could. You will be surprised how not having ackerman makes a difference. You will see your inner wheel just drag when doing full lock without it.
It does not look to hard to implement(just bend the angle iron steering arm to angle towards the center of the rear axle).But the reason i have been iffy about it is because the steering arm may hit the bottom H arm and the tie rods having a more circular movement during turning may cause the tie rods to hit the frame as they will already be very close.

I did but I planned for no ackerman.Which depending on who you ask,is or is not a mistake.There's so many different opinions on ackerman that it's ridiculous.Some recommend reverse ackerman for high speeds,some say you need ackerman some say it's useless.So I compromised and just went with none but still with room for changes.Which has been the way I have designed the buggy all along.

Who ever says you dont need ackerman is stupid. Why would you not need it? If the inner wheel and outer wheel turn at the same angle you are creating excessive tyre wear, friction and diminishing your turning radius. In a turn the distance traveled by the outer wheel is more then the inner wheel so its common sense that for that to happen the inner wheel needs to turn on more of an angle or the outer less which ever way you look at it.
Reverse ackerman? What so the outer wheel turns more then the inner wheel. Who ever came up with that. Silly people.
