Even more bits and bobs

I have found a few more jobs that i need to get done i have gotta redo a few small bits of paint. During the countless mock ups i have scratched a couple of bits the Foot bearing needs a coat or two as does the clutch drum and i noticed i have got to paint the large sprocket carrier. I all so have still got quite a few nuts and bolts that have got to be changed for stainless steel items so its a trip to the shop tomorrow to get them on order. I have yet another quick mock up to do of the frame the forks and handle bars along with the engine and carb so i can make some measurements on how long the throttle cable will have to be this is going to be made by a company i have found that makes one off cables at a reasonable cost of £30.00. I'm still counting the hours until tomorrow morning when the postman should be bringing me my new rear wheels. lol i feel like a kid at christmas !!

Were are you Mr postman?????

No post today shab!!! so still no wheels yet fingers crossed for tomorrow. Work still went on in the workshop though as i carried on with the front brake lever. It took me about another two hours going down the grades of wet and dry paper till i got to 1200 grit. My buffer then came out and the polishing was started with the course mop then medium then finishing i would say it took another hour of polishing till i was happy with it

The finished lever waiting for it's stainless nut n bolts

IMG_0313.jpg

After i had finished this the head stock clamp for the bars had a little more time on the buffer

IMG_0314.jpg

This head stock i would say has got at least 5 hours graft in it as it is the focal point of the trike it looks like it has been chrome dipped my phone camera does not do it justice but trust me folks it is just polished aluminum. This again will be finished with polished stainless allen bolts which once put together and tight will have there centers filled with the frame color paint

IMG_0315.jpg

Out of all the bits i have made or prepped the head stock has to be my favorite it came with the huffy frame i started with all those months ago it was minging corroded and had lumps and deep scratches. It just goes to show if you put the time in the end result is going to be mind blowing

:roflol: why is abbreviated such a long word??? :roflol:

More polishing!

So with two nice bling new wheels sitting in my front room i cracked back on with the jobs. As i am waiting on funds for the throttle cable to be made i cannot start the final build as the throttle cable is first part fitted to the frame so while i wait for the penny jar to fill im getting the last few bits done. If you look back through this thread you will see that i bought a second hand pair of bearing carriers these were tatty and anodized gold. they stuck out like sore thumbs plus there were the only gold item on the trike some thing had to be done.
So out with the wet and dry paper and Que the music. Well after a couple of hours then a session on my buffer...... wow what a difference! and offered up to the painted frame these are going to look so good on the finished trike

More Rimage!

To day when i looked the parts shelf is looking quite full (this is were i am putting the finished parts which are all done and ready) its a very safe place! away from anyone and anything. "Touch it and i kill you good!". I have had a few more parcels in the post which is good and parts are away being machined (rear axle and exhaust caps). The front brake caliper that came with the bike was crap plus it did not 'have the look' so a replacement was found which is much more up to the job of slowing us down!. This brake is a center pull which is mounted on a nice steel plate (which was very rusty!) This has now started the paint process along with the clutch drum and the very worn and chipped sprocket carrier
The front wheel was next the original Huffy front wheel was cooked with no replacing of the bearings so we knew we had to find a good second hand one well we needed a 16'' rim as luck would have it the nearest one to me on ebay looked like it was the one it was listed as second hand but when i read the description it was brand new just been in the guys garage. I won it for the opening bid of a fiver!!!!! TOUCH!. So another parcel when it got here i could see a little problem the axle on the new wheel much fatter than the slots in the bottom of the Huffy fork leg!! DOH! so some very careful grinding was needed to get it to fit. Then i could see that were going to need another pair of foot pegs as our ones will not fit oh well!!

The new rimage

It's a 16'' Y22 Xrims By Alex (a good bmx rim i am told)

Stoppers

The bracket that holds the front brake was in a bad way pealing paint with rust. Once this had had a little session on the wire wheel its was ready for some paint along with the clutch drum. These were given two coats of acid etch primer then four of undercoat then a couple of topcoat then three coats of clear. They were then hung from hangers in the warm heat of my spray bake (log burner lol) After a day in the warm the clear had gone off nice and hard the masking tape was pealed off and a close inspection was taken. Again the pictures of my phone do not do it justice. Once its all together i have a mate with a good camera who is going to do a photo shoot for me. The bracket past the inspection so the front brake was put back together after all the parts had had a quick polish. There are a couple of fittings on the brake which will have stainless replacements but a part from that the brake is done and on the shelf that no one touches

Back in the room

Well thing's have ground to a halt for a while still trying to get funds in the jar i have the rear axle away being machined along with the exhaust components. A few more bits have turned up in the post along with quite a quantity of stainless steel nuts bolts and washers which will all have to be polished. One part that i was not happy with was the B.S.A twist grip i had chosen it did not look right when i put it on the bars. Plus the exit for the throttle cable was pointing the wrong way to were we wanted it going so after a little looking i found a better one. This twist grip holds the record for most miles traveled made in Sweden bought in Texas shipped to England!!! i will get some pictures taken of it is has had a few hours on the buffer!. I am slowly working through polishing all the stainless nut n bolts but i have got a few done so along with a bit of painting i can show you the sprocket carrier along with its fresh polished nuts and bolts

On other shed related news our re thought Mk. 3 spud gun was finished and taken out on the range charged and fired but it wrecked the lid plastic is not the material to used so folks i give you the..........................................................................

IMG_0369.jpg

The Mk4 is nearly ready!

So on other shed news today the postman brought the last part we need for the Mk4 cannon a nice meter long length of 2.5 inch stainless steel tube for our barrel so a little tig welding is going to be needed!. On trike news we are slowly getting through polishing all the stainless steel bolts we took a little step back in that the lovely polished brake lever is going to be to short and the wrong shape to go with the new twist grip which i shall (i promise) get some pictures of it soon. So we have now gotta look for a motor crosser front brake lever to go with the twist grip!. I shall hang on to the one that i have polished in case it might be of use in the future

:thumbsup:Don't think just weld:thumbsup:

Expansion of my evil headquarters

Today saw much hard graft back earlier in this thread i was warned about building sheds lol. To this the extension was started it will end up as the Blacksmith and welding area. The tin did not cost anything as we all ready had it we used a bit of telegraph pole cut up the middle with a chainsaw to give us so nice corner posts. This is going to need a few more days spent on it but were under way. And while we have had some nice weather today we got the mixer out and concreted the ramp up to the front doors of the workshop so we can work on cars in there.

Gotta give a big up to my right hand man Ric for giving me a hand with the concreting and holding the pole still while i sliced it up the middle with our chainsaw

Finally i can start to put it together!!!!!!!

At last my engineer who does work that i cannot do phoned to say my axle had been done but he needed some more information on the exhaust bits. So a quick trip into town to go see him and collect the bits he has done. The exhaust bits are looking trick and he had done a great job on the axle which i collected so now at last we can start the final build (fingers crossed!!!!) so i will be off to the shed with all my shinny bits (touch them and i kill you good lol).
On other shed news we have finished the Mk 4 spud cannon though i had to go hide it in the workshop because every time i look at it i laugh! the picture is a little blurred because of the laughing
